Deniers persist - how about a contract?
(Path of my Life)
Global Warming deniers should put their money where their mouth is - I would.

Since deniers are still managing to delay the gelling of public opinion into concrete action to reduce emissions that are contributing to global warming, how about some sort of contract that would mean paying a real price "if and when global warming is so obvious, and obviously from CO2 emissions"?
Perhaps if deniers were contracted to forfeit their savings - whatever they have by 2025 when it will be well known that global warming is real and a big disaster, or not, as the deniers claim - to back up what they are saying, or shut up, then maybe they would not be so willing to say things that are not accurate. As a proponent of emissions reductions, I would be willing to sign over everything I own if I am wrong about global warming.
Global warming is going to be a punishing set of climate changes - the CO2 allready in the air will cause temperature rises of 2oC to 5oC over time, and the consequences are going to be disasterous. This is not something we can afford to be frivolous about.
Doesn't anybody but me READ BOOKS? - "Heat' by Monbiot, "Climate Wars" by Gwynne Dyer; or browse online material?
What we can learn is that the solution to global warming means doing the same things that would:
1] reduce our dependance on foreign oil and increase economic and physical security, as well as
2]reduce toxins from our air and food, and that would stop ocean acidification, as well as
3]reforming our economy into a much more egalitarian one. I am referring to the solution to global warming that means using less oil for energy, what has become known as "decarbonising our economy". All those benefits come from decarbonising. If not for global warming solutions, do it for these other benefits!!
As for the fear-mongering that says that changing energy sources will cause terrible economic problems, there is LESS EVIDENCE FOR THAT THAN THERE IS EVIDENCE THAT GLOBAL WARMING IS NOT REAL [is there really ANY evidence that global warming is not real?].
What set me off on this rant is a comment I got from a reader of this blog where they said that "there are more scientists who say global warming is not real that there are scientists who say it is real". That is a very much discredited statement made by people employed by the oil corporations, and there is no truth to it. Far more scientists see the melting, and relate the rising CO2 levels to the increasing global average temperatures, and predict the ocean levels to rise due to the warming they agree is occurring.
A few points to consider:
When CO2 levels increase 100ppm above any set level, temperatures have risen 5oC over periods of about 100 years. We have now had 100ppm rise since the 1700s, the lag is catching up to us late because it occurred so suddenly.
There is no historical context to know what happens when CO2 levels rise suddenly to 380ppm, since it has never happened before. We are now at 380ppm, and increasing by 3ppm per year, meaning we will be at 680ppm by 2100.
The Greenland Ice Sheet alone, if it slips into the oceans, will cause ocean levels to rise by... I am looking it up....
