Phelps Bong Hit - not his biggest crime.
(Path of my Life)

Phelps Bong Hit - not his biggest crime. by Karlin .....

Phelps Bong Hit - not as bad as drunk driving.

Date:   2/2/2009 2:05:35 PM ( 15 y ago)

Phelps is being raked over by the press for taking a bong hit... someone said "I bet it was a WATER bong", lol.

Taking a toke should not be big news anymore. Pot should not be illegal anymore.

Phelps had done something much worse, at least to my point of view - in 2004 he was charged with drunk driving. He got 18 months probation.

I think that drunk driving is so much worse than smoking pot.

You see, my life was ruined by a drunk driver. I have been dealing with the pains from those injuries for 35 years now, and I lost a lot of opportunities because of that accident.

I was going through a green light at a city intersection, and the drunk driver ran the red; I didn't see them at all, I woke up in traction in a hospital three days later. I laid there for the next three months. My head took quite a pounding, and my neck was damaged - the headaches happen every few days and are the worst of my pains, but my right leg hurts ALL the time.

But enough about me and my whining, I want to talk about the issues. The "war on drugs" laws are doing more harm than good ; alcohol is where the problem is.

People are still being thrown into jail for pot, but drunk driving kills more young Americans than any other factor. Pot has never killed anyone, except for the gun violence where dealing is concerned - something that could be eliminated if prohibition of pot was repealed. We are, by keeping on with prohibition of pot, letting the organised crime networks benefit from pot when it could be sold and taxed, and those taxes would pay for the "stimulus plan".

Besides, America is supposed to be a democracy... and most Americans are in favour of legalising pot.

-----------------

Here are some of the comments I found online about the Michael Phelps Bong Photo story, showing how many support Phelp's choice to have a toke, and other insights:

" Maybe pot is a gateway to Olympic Gold?"

"HEY - go figure this!! - Obama did cocaine, Clinton smoked pot, Bush was a drinker - and look at the results!! - Obama is much-loved and Clinton produced budget surpluses and kept American running smoothly, but Bush messed up everything and was a "problem president", a cheater, a liar, a criminal, a torturer, he took America into a War of Choice, he stole two elections and subverted democracy in so many ways ; Bush's policies killed and maimed so many American soldiers, and 600,000 Iraiq civilians are dead now, which makes the hatred of America worse than ever. "

"if any of your sponsors drops you for this, I'm going to boycott THEM."

"You'd be surprised how many athletes use that medicine to recover. Probably a lot more than you know."

"Meanwhile, President Obama's brother is in jail for doing the same thing."

"witnesses said he grabbed the bong and hit it like a champ clearly knowing how to use the thing"

"See kids if you smoke pot you can grow up to be a 14 time gold medalist too"

"Looks like the story broke at the beginning of last month. Personally I didn't not hear this story until now, Amazing how quiet the media has been eh?"

"It must have been a water bong, lol. All i can say is right about now,i feel like sparking up the bong, jumping into my speedo, cranking on the guitar hero, and chowing on some frosted flakes!! "

"Leave the guy alone. He did nothing wrong. It was no worse than drinking alcohol. Presidents Obama, Bush and Clinton have all admitted to using it."

"He could be the poster boy for legalisation"

"Some of the comments on here are incredibly ignorant. Firstly, pot isn\'t even as addictive as nicotine or alcohol, and even has legitimate medicinal uses. It should have been decriminalized along with alcohol decades ago. The only reason it is still illegal is because the CIA continues to profit from covertly distributing it along with so many other more addictive drugs like opium and heroin. 94 million Americans acknowledge having used marijuana during their lives. Does it make sense to lock them all up? Hardly. Also, roughly a trillion dollars has been spent on the War on Drugs since it began. Considering the national debt, this policy has amounted to an egregious waste of taxpayer money. Plus, if decriminalized, the associated crime element is eliminated. So in reality, the War on Drugs actually created crime. The federal government needs to do the logical, compassionate thing and decriminalize marijuana."

PS - I like that last one the best, because they mention my pet theory about how the CIA loves prohibition because they use illegal drugs as an alternative revenue stream.
