America's race issue - some still clinging to their fears. by Karlin .....

Government is good when it helps Wealthy White Folk

I was thinking about if Obama got elected in Canada... it would have been very different than what we saw in the U.S.A. last week!!

What would have happened here is that nobody would have mentioned that his skin was colored, because that would have been wrong to even bring it up. So what if he is black, that makes no difference, so don't talk about it. It would have been impolite on the same level as our former P.M. Chretien, who had a "facial doformity", where we just never mentioned it. That would have been impolite.

Of course, that is because Canada does not have so many blatant racists here [but we do have them, for sure]. Electing a black leader is only big news where racism exists.

To me, it is so weird to hear Americans talk about "we have turned a corner" with this new leader because of the color of his skin, and not "the content of his charachter" [M.L.K.]

And, that so many Americans remain uncomfortable with Obama as President, only because of the color of his skin.

So, who ARE those racists? And what is the relation to Republicans and the rabid "free-market capitalists"? Interestingly, in the recent American presidential election, those who openly stated that they "would never vote for a black man" were probably not often Democrats, and I am wondering of they are the ones who keep talking about needing to have "small government", and who believe that "social programs" will ruin America.

In short, I wonder if they are the Right Wingers? Hmmmm. Startling idea. Free-markey, small government, religious too I suppose, and Republican supporters despite the Bush Presidency having been such a disaster. In other words, nothing will ever change their minds about anything.

Clinging to their fears.

An example of these racist right wing Republicans lives in Sarah Palin. Or was her name Vera? I've allready forgotten. There was that story about how she said she would "never hire a black person" when she was in Alaska. Rabidly Right Wing. Non-Liberal. Anti-Socialist.

It all fits so nicely together, and yet it is all so hypocritical. Hypocracy was a cornerstone of the Bush Presidency [he could not have done much of what he did without it!!]. They believe in certain things like "no government to help people out, we all have to fight to survive on our own". Funny thing though, not many of these Rabid Right Wingers are black, nor are they poor, nor are they disabled or sick or living in undevelped nations, and especially they are not the Native Americans from whom - get this - GOVERNMENT took their lands.

And all those things they love that government does - Government to fight the wars in Iraq ; Government to impose the War on Drugs on us ; Government to send in the troops when students protest ; Government to keep order so that the wealthy can hold on to their property...

Oh ya, they believe in government all right, but just when it helps them. Like the bailout. Can you hear that deafening silence from the Rabid Right Wingers now as GOVERNMENT is handing out BILLIONS to the bankers? What is that if not "government help"?

Soon will come the GOVERNMENT help for General Motors... whereas letting them fail due to their incompetance or the fact that they simply are not producing anything of value for this world. How do these Right Wing, Obama-hating, small government folks possibly believe that Bankers and General Motors should get government money... but people who are receiving welfare should instead just be left to die [despite often not having actually made any mistake that put them in their poverty]? Not choosing your parents wisely is hardly as blamefull as G.M. building SUVs in 2008, or for Bankers not bothering to check up on the quality of the mortgages being lent out. Or, the extreme situation where Banker Lobbyists pressured Bush into changing the rules so that they didn't have to have any backing for the loans they were taking on!!

Yup, it is the same people who are capitalists, racists, and Republicans. But we "liberals" do not want them to suffer, we do not hate them for the errors of judgement, we only want to them to heal, to join the community, and to embrace humanity. Imagine, a world of love.

I can hear them now, saying: "ooooooo, you make me soooooh ang-wee". Get over it, and learn to judge Obama by the content of his charachter, not the color of his skin.
