While there are so many reasons behind this truth, every woman will have different experiences with it. One thing everyone has in common, however, is the need for rest during this life-changing and life-giving time.
Unfortunately, daily demands can be enough to keep even the most exhausted pregnant woman from getting well-deserved rest. The good news is there are ways to work it in with your daily routine. You don't need to take off for a weekend at the spa or lay on a float in the pool for hours each day to find relief. Here are three simply relaxing things to try when all you need is some rest.
1. Make Yourself More Comfortable at Night
On a scale from 1 to 10, how would you rate your sleep during pregnancy? If it's not looking good, take comfort in knowing you're not alone. Pregnancy is a time notorious for less-than-restful nights of sleep, especially the farther along you get.
However, some pregnancy sleep tips could turn your luck around, leaving you feeling refreshed when the sun comes up. For instance, a pregnancy pillow could provide much-needed relief from pressure from side sleeping, and knowing how to relieve pain from sudden and intense leg cramps will be helpful as well.
2. Immerse Yourself in Nature
Have you ever heard of forest bathing? Don't worry, it doesn't involve a bathing suit. All you need to do is get out into nature and be as mindful as you can, tuning into the sights and smells, and sounds that surround you.
Being outside is one of the best ways to make yourself feel better. Not only is it exceptional for providing stress relief, but it's also the perfect way to balance yourself when you're feeling scattered or stretched too thin. Don't forget to tuck your phone away. Being connected only to nature and your thoughts are what will help you reap nature's maximum benefits.
Since pregnancy can be overwhelming or emotional at times, making the effort to disconnect and be at peace should be non-negotiable. You won't regret it.
3. Put Yourself Out There
Spending time with those who understand you is a necessary part of everyone's life. Have you connected with other pregnant women yet? If not, consider making that a priority. Socialization and connections are incredibly important for mental health and when you're feeling good, both you and your baby will have a healthier and happier pregnancy.
A wonderful way to do this is to seek out prenatal fitness or other prep classes. Your birthing center or hospital would be a great resource for pointing you in the right direction. Spending time with others going through pregnancy as well would give you the chance to make friends, give and receive support, and take comfort in knowing that others might be feeling just like you are on those hard days.
What's even better about this is that you might develop lasting friendships, later getting together with your babies. Moms supporting moms is a wonderful thing.
Making relaxation an important part of your pregnancy is one of the best things you can do for both you and your baby. Remember that what you do doesn't have to be fancy or expensive to be beneficial.
While there are so many ways you can slow down and rest, focusing on even just a few will deliver big results. By making yourself comfortable at night, being intentional with your time outdoors, and meeting your human needs for interaction and connection, you'll find that it's easy to relax and truly enjoy your time as a mom-to-be.
