Village of the Water Spirits
Just finished re-reading the book "The Village of the Water Spirits; The Dreams of African Americans" by Michael Ortiz Hill and Mandaza Augustine Kandemwa (2006) The book describes the relationship between the spiritual beliefs of the Bantu people of the Central and Southern African continent and the spirituality of the people of the African Diaspora, as told through dreams. The book inspired me to make two doodles involving two of my favorite passages from the book.

"Water spirits are the most powerful of all the spirits. They come out of the body of God and they return to it...they are just like his angels...they communicate directly with God. They have got tremendous power of healing and wisdom direct from the Creator. They are water, they are air, they are clouds, they are rainmakers...they are healers." Mandaza Augustine Kandemwa, from "The Village of the Water Spirits"

"...a way of knowing that perceives the circles within the circles within the circles: self, family, clan and tribe encircled by the Ancestors; the Ancestors encircled by the elemental intelligences of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air, and all of it encircled by the endless presence of God"--Michael Ortiz Hill, from "The Village of the Water Spirits"
MANDAZA AUGUSTINE KANDEMWA was born a Svikiro (in Shona, his native tongue), a carrier of many earth and water spirits, and a Mhondoro, one who is in constant prayer on behalf of others. He is guided by the water and lion spirits. As a vessel of the Spirits, Mandaza receives visions and dreams, makes offerings, performs healing rituals, and serves as a messenger for the Ancient Ones. Mandaza teaches us to become "living prayers" to be in service of the One Spirit that exists in all things. He lives in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and travels internationally as a Peacemaker.
