Eco Art: Altered Postcards
Postcards from local art exhibits that I've altered with reused materials
Date: 10/25/2018 10:03:21 PM ( 6 y ) ... viewed 1756 times I often go to the Huntington Beach Art Center in Southern California. It is a small yet very well-laid out gallery, sponsored by the city of Huntington Beach, that showcases local artists. There are new art exhibits about every three months; each is advertised with postcards featuring the works of some of the artists. I've collected these postcards from each exhibit I've attended; here are four 7" x 5" postcards that I've altered to create art of my own:
Original Postcard Image: Annette Heully "Body Landscape" 2015; Hand-woven cotton and vinyl thread-- dimensions variable. Photo credit: Stefan Meyer

Original Postcard Image: Rojean Malcula "Inspired"; winner of the postcard design for the fourth Annual Artist Council Exhibition, 2017
Altered Postcard Four by mayah(c)2018 reused ripped up old calendar image for collage,paper-doll girl and heart images from Somerset Studio craft magazines; hand embroidery. The paper doll is made up of 4 separate images pieced together, outlined with black ink pen,and backed with reused cardboard for a 3D effect; the bottom of her skirt says "She decided to be brave". I had a lot of fun making her--reminds me of when I was a little girl and made paper dolls and their clothes.
Reverse of postcard; this image is from a magazine advertisement for Farmer's Insurance. The ad is titled "vengeful vermin", I altered the squirrel so that he'd appear to be kinder. (Original
