On Reclaiming Science in America--AAAS HIstory and Revival
THE CONVERSATION BETWEEN
SCIENCE, ETHICS, and FOOD
ASKS TO BE EXPLORED NOW
As a visionary, I contend that the conversation
between GMO and Organic lovers
is one of the issues of our age.
History, one 1000 years from now,
will look back at what we as science journalists
say now, this very weekend, and the stand that scientists with integrity
express. No industry can be strong in the eyes
of the public that does not monitor its own strengths
as well as potential weaknesses.
I am deeply honored to be here among the press.
I am deeply honored to be one of your Science Journalists.
Thank you AAAS for opening my eyes to the good
that you bring. Together, we will bridge Science
and Society.
I remain

On Reclaiming Science in America--AAAS HIstory and Revival

I had a powerful day of feedback and moving things forward today. I got some big Yes's in response to requests I put out for products. It is good to know that my emails were heard and those I wrote to responded in ways to make my Pacific Symposium 2014 a success.
Today I worked many hours on a blog and my body allowed me to do this without the need for anti-inflammatories.
I naturally feel better and can control my diet intake when my spirit is in gear.
There is an idea brewing that is really big.
It is based on wanting to play a role in Reclaiming True Science in America.
It is based on positive experiences I had in 2010 when I attended as Press the annual conference of the AAAS, The Association for the Advancement of Science, the most prodigious science organization in the world.
I do not have time to collect my thoughts on this….I have to move forward.
HERE IS ONE RELEVANT QUOTE I NEED That I searched for:
Alfred W. McCann on Science
"To attack science, the calm, the immutable, the exact, is one thing — the work of a fanatic or an irrational being. To attack an abuse of men claiming to represent science is not only a privilege but a duty, and he who shirks it through fear of criticism or through dread of precipitating a controversy in which he himself may lose prestige is no lover of truth. Rather does he love comfort more."
--Alfred Watterson McCann, The Author
of "The Science of Eating' (1918, 1919)
This is from "Gorilla or God," p 263.
A creations viewpoint, I concur with McCann here.

TODAY's WORK
GMOs? What's on the Insecticide Part of the Equation?
Rachel Carson, in the classic work, "Silent Spring," said more than fifty years ago that if we kept using the insecticides the way we were, the chemicals would no longer work, and where would be go from there? Dr. Ramon J. Seidler, Ph.D, former EPA Senior Scientist paraphrases her in an excellent interview with Kathleen Hallal of WWGF News. We have reached the point that we can go no further using this GMO approach to farming. We are in the process of producing super insects that cannot be controlled. The insects have developed resistance to all the insecticides we are throwing at them. It's time to get the message out. GMO farming is all about pesticides, Making calls today to Label GMOs in Oregon & Colorado is a good next step to stop the insanity. Both Governor candidates in Oregon are asking for YES on Labeling, David Bronner, president of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap reports in this interview.

Nina Federoff Comments for GE Crop Report Sept 15, 2014
Nina Federoff Comments to NRC September 15-16
The Nation Research Council is coming out with a report on GE Crops. Public Testamony is welcome again at the December meeting. All written Comments are welcome now! Nina Federoff, former president of the AAAS called some of the speakers being allowed to speak "non-credible"…In other works, some of the Anti-GMO speakers who differ from her Biotech point of view. Her comment called some of the other speakers incredulous was bleeped out of the official transcript. I heard her comment.
These hearings continue tomorrow. There was a place for public testimony today, but those who represent Anti-GMO did not ask to be heard. Amazing to me that the Anti-GMO activists were not in this loop to be heard when they had the chance to speak up today. I just heard about this hearing this morning!
I found out about this through my email from the Organic Trade Association Us Gov Affairs mailing list. Thank you, OTA!

Is there any wonder that Science Magazine, published by the AAAS, rejected the Dr Bronner ad?
Here is the beginning of the statement against Labeling GMOs that came out a couple weeks before the Prop 37 vote on October 20, 2012:
Foods containing ingredients from genetically modified (GM) crops pose no greater risk than the same foods made from crops modified by conventional plant breeding techniques, the AAAS Board of Directors has concluded. Legally mandating labels on GM foods could therefore “mislead and falsely alarm consumers,” the Board said in a statement approved 20 October.

This is Michelle Simon's Take on AAAS Coming out against Prop 37
This is from a Plant Your Dream Blog Post
Science, Ethics and Food: Reflections on Prop 37, on the eve of the election…
So the question remains: Why this position right now? Why would such a mainstream scientific organization stick its neck out on a highly controversial issue just days before the election? And how we can trust any future AAAS statements to be based on science, instead of what this looks like: A carefully-orchestrated political and public relations maneuver that puts the AAAS motto to shame: “Advancing science, serving society.” The only interests this charade serves are those of the biotech, chemical, and junk food industries.

CLASSIC ARTICLE ON HOW GE BIOTECHNOLOGY CAME INTO BEING
A must read from Claire Hope Cummins, this article called "Trespass" shares the story of Ignacio Chapela who discovered GMO contamination, was published in Nature Magazine, and then ran into all kinds of static from the Biotech industry that was supporting Biotech work at Berkeley, his university.
I met this Pure Food and Seed Freedom hero at the recent National Heirloom Expo.
