Art:Window into Past/Present

UPDATED: Ancient Native American dwellings in New Mexico evoke a deeper connection to Mother Earth. The Pueblo peoples were adept astronomers/astrologers*, and would have observed lunar and solar eclipses, such as the full solar eclipse on 11-13-2012.

"Window Into the Past Made Present" Eco Art by mayah (c)2012

"Chaco Culture National Historical Park: For the American Indians who lived in this canyon a thousand years ago, (astronomy) was a way of life. These students of the skies carefully lined up their stone structures to match solar and lunar events, a feat that experts say took generations of close observation." http://www.calif.aaa.com/westways/2012/05/Pages/count-down-new-mexico-space-t...

"The Center of the Ancient World: Today the massive buildings of the ancestral Pueblo peoples still testify to the organizational and engineering abilities not seen anywhere else in the American Southwest...the canyon was central to thousands of people between 850 and 1250 A.D." Read more about Chaco Culture National Historic Park: http://www.nps.gov/chcu/index.htm

Addendum 11/13/2012: I didn't know until I looked up information on the Web that the Pueblo peoples who built this site in the ancient times were adept astronomers/astrologers*; they would have been aware of today's full solar eclipse. I changed the name of the art piece from "Window to the Past" to "Window Into the Past Made Present".

*When posting this writing, twice I used the word “astrologers” instead of “astronomers” to describe the Ancient Ones. This current edit uses the term “astronomers/astrologers”; as astronomers, the people observed the movement of the sun, earth, moon, and stars, but as astrologers, the people imbued their observations with spiritual meaning and conducted religious ceremonies to mark the various celestial events.

"Eco Art by mayah" utilizes reused materials and earth-friendlier art supplies:   Found objects: seed pod, California oak acorn caps, feathers, dried persimmon blossom. Reused materials: compostable food container, corrugated and other cardboard, magazine photo from AAA Westways magazine May 2012, leather strips, copper staples from packaging.Other materials: copper beads, nontoxic glues.

Shamans travel either into the "inner" or "higher" realms of existence; the vocabulary we use is inadequate except to say that the realms are not of this earth plane of existence.

This art piece is an example of what I call "shamanic art", when the energy of Spirit is felt very strongly and a message is given.
