First Day, New Fast

Diary of my new fasts. Long fasts, lifestyle changes, progress in my fasting lifestyle.

Today I begin a new fast, I've become a very experienced faster over the last 13 years, doing fasts which vary from about 8 days at a minimum to over 40.

I've become more experienced and interested in the longer fasts, as I've become more and more accustomed to the state of fasting over the years - particularly the last 2 years in which I did a number of longer fasts and really enjoyed and went well on them - so spring is here, with its inspiring sunshine and warmer weather and I have embarked on yet another journey within :)

I love fasting and am hooked on it - I don't think anyone who progresses this far with it will want to ever give it up. It is an incredible way to stay young, revitalize both the spirit and the physical form and provides what seem to be innumerable, really incredible benefits.

I tend to go without any specific goal, I might start with the idea of doing a fast anywhere from 30-60 or even 90 days, and just basically embark on it and listen to my body and see how I progress. I think it's much better to listen to what's going on and tune in than to intellectualize some goal and get rigid about it - I've learned a lot over the years, and one of the things I have learned through experience is that there are many ways to enjoy the benefits of fasting, and these don't have to be so narrow - that each person should experiment and find out what works for them and this too may change and develop as they go through different cycles of life, seasons, energies and as they progress in their practice of fasting. I have a loose idea of going for somewhere 30 days - 90 and of doing some of this as a fast where I drink fresh fruit/veg juice and some of it where I don't drink that but stick to teas, water and the occasional broth. The main point for me is to close the doors of digestion and let the energies usually directed that way turn themselves to detoxing and revitalizing me.

Feeling great on the first day - spent a couple weaning down days before today eating lighter and lighter in preparation, and these days - after years of fasting, my body seems to take to a new fast very quickly with little to no complaint or difficulty. Had a couple minor stomach gurgles today and have decided to have a couple of small juices a day starting up at least - feeling very wonderful though, inspired, mentally clear and bright - just awesome, the awesome feeling that comes with fasting kicking in quickly and I do so love it.

Got myself a long desired Berkey Water Filter finally, something I should have done a long time ago which was on the wish list for the last few years - It set me back about 600$ for a system that came with enough flouride filters to last me the next 8-10 years - So I'm also on day 3 of not drinking flouride and a whole lot of other nasties in my drinking water - The water tastes so much better, none of that sharp chlorine left in it - The Berkey takes out all kinds of nasties - it's going to be my first fast with real quality water consistently and I'm so looking forward to that and getting those heavy metals out of my system.

All for today - Just kicking it off really - I like to write from time to time to help others and to give myself a place to track my own progress at fasting. Hope this is of benefit and inspiration to many others working on taking their wellbeing into their own hands and not being too reliant on a world of pharmaceuticals etc.

Also getting more and more into Yoga - Have been practicing a couple of kinds of Yoga and feeling the benefits. Best thing ever :) I find when Fasting I really excel at my physical practices also - contrary to what might seem likely, when I fast, while I might sleep a little longer, in general my energy is very clear and strong and physically I seem to make leaps and bounds in any exercise programs.

I'll write again in a few days - for those who are interested, my other blog is titled "Comfort in My Longest Fast" which is really a blog about fasts done over the last couple of years, and not one fast at all (just kept making entries :) I thought today it was better to make a fresh start, as I've been researching and want to do something different this time - so I do have one big goal - which is to begin a longterm lifestyle change to intermittent fasting after coming off this fast. Something I recently discovered the evidence on the benefits of and have become very interested in doing as a lifestyle change.
I'll keep you posted and fill in some of that info in subsequent entries.
