Tracing updates from this historic event that happened in
1998 when Ghandi devotee founder of 'Operation Cremate Monsanto'. Professor Nanjundaswamy, a committed Gandhian and leader of the KRRS,
burned Monsanto fields. Professor Nanjuncaswarmy died of a prolonged
illness in 2004.
I feel him with me now on December 10, 2011.
I sent blessing to the Soul of this man and welcome his support
in the local Arosa Canyon Education Campaign.
Roundup Herbicide shall be outlawed, now that Roundup has come
home to my own backyard and effected, potentially the shared health

Of course, Monsanto wouldn't be Monsanto without a bit of subterfuge, and this is where the tale gets murkier. Monsanto apparently doesn't trust Indian farmers to swallow its propaganda as easily as it would like. So, in order to avoid having to persuade farmers of the case for GM crops, it has tried a different tack: growing CM crops on the farmer's land without telling him. This is what happened to Basanna Hun sole, on whose land the first cremation took place. According to the farmer, he was approached in July 1998 by officials from Mahyco Monsanto, who offered him the chance to grow free of charge a new variety of cotton, which they claimed would give him wonderful results. They omitted to tell him that the cotton was genetically modified, or that it had not been approved for testing by the government. In effect, Monsanto tricked Basanna Hunsole into unknowingly growing illegal crops on his land. Moreover, Basanna was unim pressed with what he saw. Despite Mon santo's claims, he said that the GM 'bollgard' cotton grew "miserably", and reached less than half the height of the tra ditional strains he was growing in nearby fields. Worst of al}, they were heavily infested with boll weevils.

Haitian Peasants Threaten to Burn GM Aid Package

The earthquake in Haiti will surely go down as one of the most terrible tragedies of the new century. Thousands of refugees have been left homeless, penniless, and starving.
Almost four months after the disaster that killed as many as 230,000 Haitians, up to a million more are still living in squalid tent cities devoid of potable water, food, and medical aid.
With a group of people this desperate, surely any offer of food aid would be welcomed with open arms...
But not if those supplies are coming from agricultural lightning-rod Monsanto.
Haitian peasant farming leader Chavannes Jean-Baptiste has threatened to publicly burn 475 tons of hybrid corn and vegetable seeds from Monsanto's latest aid package.
To drive the anti-Monsanto message home, Jean-Baptiste's Peasant Movement of Papay (MPP) has planned their fiery demonstration on June 4 — World Environment Day.

This precedent-setting decision has significant ramifications for all organic farmers, nearby conventional farmers, and both the seed and biotechnology industries. In short, the court upheld the right of an organic farmer to sue and win damages to cover economic losses even when a conventional production input (in this case, insecticides) is applied legally and in accord with all requirements.
In short, when an applicator applies a pesticide, the applicator henceforth owns responsibility for any adverse impacts associated with the application. In many similar cases involving pesticide drift or off-target movement, applicators and/or farmers have successfully used the defence that they followed the label, and hence should not be held accountable.
The agrichemical industry hired top-notch attorneys and submitted amicus briefs before the appellate court in the hope of overturning the decision. They were unsuccessful, and must now decide whether to appeal the case to the California Supreme Court.
