Shamanic Art Meditation
A new form of meditation that I'm calling "shamanic art meditation" to relieve stress.

Have been stressed out lately, with personal and world issues. Last week I meditated (or at least tried to, kept falling asleep!) for two hours sitting cross-legged. When I got up, my left leg was swollen and inflamed from the top of my foot to my thigh! It was painful enough to cause me to limp.
I went to an energy worker, a chiropractor by license; I see him as my "doctor" whenever I get really sick. He said that the physical problem was blocked lymphatic drainage with the causal factor being emotional. He asked me what I was upset about at the time I sat in meditation. The first thing that popped into my mind was the nuclear disaster in Japan. He cleared the emotional blockage and the tears started to flow. I cried on and off for a week as the emotions and the lymph drained.
I've decided not to watch or listen to the news. I don't like being a "head in the sand" person, but until I learn not to stuff my emotions into my body and develop weird symptoms (this is a most unwelcome habit of mine) I have to take care of myself. Getting sick over world events doesn't help the situation, my family, or myself.
Now, I have a brief meditation and water ritual practice in the morning. I pour waste water from the sink (from doing the dishes and/or washing my hands) at the spot in my backyard where three tree's roots converge, asking for and thanking Spirit for the healing of the waters around the Fukishima nuclear power plant in Japan. Then I go about my day.
So, to make a very long story short, last night, feeling anxious and despairing, I decided to draw instead of sleep. I closed my eyes, pencil on the art pad, and asked Spirit to guide my pencil. I saw images in my mind and moved the pencil to try and capture what I saw onto the paper, eyes still closed. The above art work is what ensued. While I was inking the outlines, I fell asleep, sitting up in bed, pen in hand!
I've decided to call this new practice "shamanic art meditation".
