Hi Leslie,
The passage of that bill is a tragedy. But if I have learned anything over the course of my life, it is that there is also good and love and wisdom in the world, and to never give up hope. And to never give up on what is truly important.
The importance of food was brought home to me recently. Someone I know was totally healed by food. Doctors and drugs did not do that. Food did. The kind of food that is threatened by the food bill.
I am deeply grateful for all you did to start a national conversation, and to stop the bill.
I tried in my own way to fight it, but what you did was awesome. You are a hero. I mean that.
And there was an important victory. S3767 was not added to the bill, and did not pass. There are no criminal penalties, as far as I can tell. If not for the outcry against it, it would have passed.
But I do think that quality food is worth fighting for. Maybe something like the civil rights movement of the 60s is called for. A food rights movement?
I will think more on this. The year is coming to an end, and perhaps the birth of a new year will provide a chance for inspiration as to what to do.
