Death of a Farm...and Beet Keepers, Return!
The shutting down of La Milpa Organica farm
due to breaking regulations exists for me
in the context of impending Food Safety Legislation tha
will further regulate small micro farms such as La Milpa Organica farm.
I see what happened here as part of a needed national conversation
about the real meaning of Food Safety.
Safe Food to me means local, organic, community based.
As Barry Logan said, My customers are my regulators.

Washington is pushing now to get through
another bill beyond the death of S-510,
It is called S. 3767. It is in the Judiciary committee
as of September 24, 2010.
It will potentially harm more than help food safety.

S 510 may be apparently dead,
but other Food Safety Bills that would harm
small farmers are still before the Judiciary committee
and need to be amended.

Dear friends, friends of the farm, eaters, volunteers, fellow farmers,
apprentices, chefs, fellow travelers, magnificent humans all:
I have decided to close La Milpa Organica Farm.
Farming would ideally be focused on caretaking the land, growing food
and feeding people. Unfortunately, the administrative burden imposed by
the existing regulatory framework has made it impossible to continue.
I am truly humbled by the support that the people of San Diego have
given the farm and me personally.
The farm has been a great success in terms of feeding people. We have
been able to maintain year-round vegetable production for seven years.
Vegetables are incapable of lying. That is, the quality, taste,
freshness of our produce are an honest reflection of the place and
conditions under which they were grown and harvested. I am very proud of
the story they tell us each day.
The local food movement has grown considerably during my tenure, the new
farms coming along insure that there will not be food vacuum left in our
wake.
I know that I am leaving this land in better condition than I found it.
The quality of the soil and increased bio-diversity reflects that.
Still I am saddened to turn off the irrigation and leave.
Our fund raising efforts for a well raised seven thousand dollars. San
Diego Roots is holding those funds against future need. Thank you
everyone who contributed. I would like those funds used to develop the
newly established San Diego Roots farm.
I will be taking some time off to reflect and heal.
I again would like to say thank you and wish you all blessings and good
health.

In the Script....we recognize...
We are each called forth now to adapt to Nature and no longer ask Nature
to adapt to us. We stand up to the powers that be. We speak up.
We begin to speak up September 18, proclaimed World Beet Day.
World Beet Day coincides with the day of At One Ment, as honored by our allies in the Jewish Traditionaround the world who are called by their faith to fast on September 18, 2010.
This is a historic moment in
History of Peace on Earth.
I completed my first Clip of Barry September 16,
on Thursday. This was the day that many said the
Senate intended to look at S-510, the Food Safety Modernization
Act. A few minutes after I uploaded the Video,
I began to see indications on the internet that
S-510, a bill that potentially influences the ability
of small farmers to endure the stresses of overregulation
while not really curtailing the issues of the buggy
large industrial farming system, was not to be taken
up in Washington.
Events at La Milpa Organica Farm are far reaching.
This is a national conversation.
It asks to be addressed.
Barry Logan is an eloquent representative of a 10,000
year tradition of small farmers that have existed since the
beginning of agriculture.
That system--all around the world--and as personfied
by incidents at La Milpa Organica Farm--are butting heads
with a modern system of agriculture out of sync with the laws
of nature.
I want to thank my present sponsors,
The Beet Keepers, for giving me the time to upload
a few of the videos I made.
There are many more that are materials
that would be valuable if studied in what I am
reframing at
the La Milpa Organic Farm Open University.
The Open Universation is now in session.
The course of study would detail an understanding
and thorough education that can come from studying
what Barry Logan was about for seven years
at La Milpa Organica farm.
Rather than naming Barry Logan a violator of regulations,
in the Beet Keepers, Return Rock Your School Script,
as I see it, he is acknowledged as the
first Chancellor.
Barry has told me in recorded interviews,
that even if he was offered 1 million now from an Angel
to save the farm, he would want to walk away.
The stress he has endured has been profound.
It is the same stress that makes many local small organic
farmers question if it is wise to continue to recommend
farming to the next generation.
We are now in a food crisis.
Our food supply is increcilble challenged.
Most of us do not know how to eat.
The word Holocost is a world that in intended
that many would like to apply to the events in world war two
when many millions of lives are lost.
I can only say, that the holocost continues
day by day through the death and dying that is taking
place because the majority of us do not know how to eat.
The Chain of being is now being restored
in our Rock Your Soul Opera called Beet Keepers, Return!
I see a new wave of youth,
who formerly might have entered conventional medicine
now learning the points of the meridians of thebody.
There is a new call for integrative medicine.
I, with the help of sponsors, will take a stand for Real Food
when we co-create an Enchanted Garden Root Your Dream Altar
at the upcoming Pacific Symposium 2010 at the Catamaran Resort
Hotel, November 4-7, 2010.
The hope of the world, our future generations of
children, born and unborn, is looking to each of us now
to rise up as seeds in a tremendous Moment of Awakening.
We can do it. We are holding the course of history in our
hands now by the decisions we make.
