The Beat, the Box, or Both?
Are You Choosing the Beat or the Box,
or both?
December 26:The Day after Christmas,
The Day when a lot of us
have cut trees in our living rooms
and a lot of giftwrap. Numbers
of us have beets growing in our lives.

When I say the BEAT I mean the Beat of nature.
I mean living in harmony with the Heart Beat of
Mother Earth.
When I say the Beat, I am asking you to
move organically to thinking of the beet.
The beet carries the Beat.
The beet helps you get in touch with the Beat.
Grow a beet. KEEP the BEET. Eat the beet greens.
Keep the beet. Let it grow. Let it grow in a pot.
Start with growing a beet in a small pot.
I use sugar cane bagasse pots from my
friend and sponsor ANTHONY RUSSO
who supplies me all the little pots I need
for kids and adult kids who still have a earning
to use crayons. I want to be in touch with all the
little kids as well as the grown ups who still
dream, who still have dreams.
I get my marching orders from the beet.
When you grow a beet and get to know your beet,
the beat will speak to you.
I call my beet KEEP The BEAT.
I once asked my partner in the beet,
LIORA LEAH to drawn out what I imagined
the beet would look like. That is how
the cartoon character of Keep The Beet was born
early in 2009. By 2010 or 2011, a whole lot of
other kids will be familiar with this cartoon character
called Keep The Beet. Most people like the looks
of her and laugh. A few, who look at her, don't
have positive feelings but I can live with that.
Keep the Beet is here to stay. Keep the Beet
will become animated within a period of times,
and her image will be licensed to others to use.
Keep the Beet began to take off last December
when she attended ZAHAVA and MICHAEl STROUD'S
HOLLYWOOD GOES GREEN CONFENENCE.
She came to the attention of PAIGE DONNER
of of the HUFFINGTON POST. Paige was the first
to quote Keep The Beet in print, however
a lot of others took notice of this character
that left the field and decided to speak up
for from a veggie point of view.
That idea of vegetables running the show
is not new. MICHAEL POLLAN, in THE BOTANY OF DESIRE
speaks about veggies running the show.
Veggies manipulate us humans into getting
around and getting their needs met.
I have not read the book but I understand
JITTERBUG PERFUME also stars a beet. TOM ROBBINS
wrote that book.
Looking to the future, Keep the Beet will likely
end up preaching from a lot of pulpits, including
a float at DISNEYLAND. WALT DISNEY was always
a friend of dreams, and Keep the Beet is just about
the top cheerleader for "rooting" dreams that
I personally know.
Be careful. Use caution. I want to tell you in advance.
Growing a beet in a pot will indeed give you confidence
you can grow your own food. Start small. Just one Beet
is all I ask. That is all it takes to be called an gardener.
From there, the advance program, involves growing a tree
in a pot, and from there growing trees, beets, and other
living things in the ground.
THE BOX?
So that does a good job of explaining the beet
and KEEP The Beet. Gradually, as she started to speak
to me, she started to develop her personality as
well as refine mine.
She is clearly KEEP THE BEET MEDIA STAR
The World's First Talking Beet Plant.
When you grow her, keep the beet, and eat her beet greens
she will start talking to you.
Don't be surprized if you start waking up with
yummy yummy dreams that are too good to eat,
but worth pursuing. After all, beets are roots,
and roots make seeds.
Plant a Seed. Grow a whole new world!
Now for the BOX.
What is the Box?
The box is what most of us get caught up in.
We love pretty boxes.
We get all caught up in how pretty the box.
We get fixated on the box. At 20, 30, 40, 50,
60, we develop different attitudes about the
box that we live in, but at each age it is very easy
to imagine that we are the box. For many of
us, what we see in the mirror had effect how
we feel about ourselves. At 50 or 60, some
of us get depressed when we see wrinkles
on our face in the mirror. We start thinking
of ourselves as over the hill. We forget that
our best years are always in front of us
as long as we can breathe and love.
The wise among us, realize that we can
rejuvenate the box. This, of course, is an
inside job.
Then, again, there are many other manifestations
of living inside the box.
Some of us get all hung up with the size of the box.
We start collecting boxes, be they houses, cars, or
things to stuff inside the little spaces we have.
Some of us imagine that our value is determined
by how many boxes we have--be they books
or trinkets. Stuff--boxes--start controlling us--
before you know it, your life has no more room
to grow.
THE BEET OR THE BOX, or BOTH?
Keep The Beet tells me, it is possible
to honor the box as well as the beet.
We can life a simple life where we are focused
on the beat of life flowing through us.
It is not necessary to be boxless, she
tells me. But be aware of the wrapping,
she sez, for a box is a box, and beauty
is more than skin deep.
