If the Democrats are to make a real difference, their first task is to repeal the Orwellian-named "Patriot Acts," the torture legislation, the detention without court evidence legislation, and the right-to-spy and invade privacy without court warrant legislation. The White House tyrant needs to be quickly told that one more "signing statement" and he will be impeached, convicted, and turned over to the War Crimes Tribunal at the Hague.

Maher Arar, a Canadian citizen, was a victim of the U.S. policy known as "extraordinary rendition." He was detained by U.S. officials in 2002, accused of terrorist links, and handed over to Syrian authorities, who tortured him. Arar is working with the Center for Constitutional Rights to appeal a case against the U.S. government that was dismissed on national security grounds.
The Supreme Court said that Bush’s rendition program, taking people to other countries to torture them is illegal. Bush had to pass laws making torture legal in order not to be impeached. These laws will be overturned, at least by the time he is gone. Bush is just a hired hand. I believe he would be in trouble if he did not do what others would have him to do. I pray for Bush.
