difference between tyrosine and l-tyrosine?
by lisag 19 y
well i finally went to the store. i checked out each thing you and everyone else said in answer.... and i was totally suprised. i expected my body to want maca root and selenium. instead i had no response to the maca root and the selenium! but my response to the l-tyrosine and the acetyl-carnitine were off the scale.
i bought the maca root, selenium and zinc anyway, even though i didn’t get a hit on them... i’ll get muscle tested for them...
i bought l-tyrosine, not tyrosine. doesn’t anyone know if this matters as far as the ability to help the thyroid goes?
thx,
Lisa

Re: Maca, maybe useful for adrenal fatigue

Maca root is an herbal supplement that comes from the Peruvian maca plant. It has been hailed in Peru for years as a superfood that can help improve health and vitality. Maca may also elevate energy levels, improve immune function and provide vital nutrients to malnourished bodies. The latest in a long line of superfoods making their way to North America and Europe from other continents, maca is believed to be an adaptogen, or an herb that helps the body resist stress, trauma, and fatigue. It is believed to enhance immunity and increase energy. here are many other promoted benefits of mac ...

Hey Doc,
After reading the questions/answers re: maca root I’m very interested in giving this a try. I had a complete hysterectomy, including ovaries about 12 years ago. Wouldn’t of happened if I knew what I know now:( I have been on HRT, the compound formula’s for all this time. I use an estrogen cream, testosterone gel and a capsule of progesterone. I know these are not healthy and they are very expensive. I’m afraid to just stop and not do anything for my lack of hormones.I would go into menopause very quickly. by bevpirt 21 y
Hi Vtool,
On my Inca Maca Gold container it equates 2 teaspoons with 6.2 grams, so it looks like 1/2 tsp. is the minimum dosage according to your information. The directions on my container do recommend the minimum dosage of the 6.2 grams. The last person I purchased Maca root powder from, Ken Johnson in Canada, at therootofthematter.ca recommends three heaping teaspoons per day. I left you a message on the Female Problems Forum. Thanks.

I was thinking of taking this again, also because it’s supposed to be healing for the adrenal glands, do you find this to be true? And is it a good alkalizer?

Hello! Your adrenals need sea salt to help them function. It needs to be sea salt and not regular table salt, though. Look for air dried sea salt for best results.
Also, you might want to add some adaptagens (like ginseng which I think you mentioned that you are already taking) and maca. Maca root supports your adrenals and your thyroid. For more information on maca see

Can I use maca root while using Mirena IUD?

Is there any information about the possible effect taking maca root may have on my Mirena IUD? I love my Mirena, I have had it for about 9 months with almost no side effects. I started maca 2 weeks ago and felt great, but stopped because I realized that it might reduce the effectiveness of my Mirena? Any validity to that? It’s my understanding that maca does not actually behave as a hormone in the body, but that it can increase fertility. Would this action effect the way the Mirena works? Maca root normalizes hormones. It’s the balancing that straightens out the elivated testosterone or estrogen. It’s NOT a testosterone supplament and won’t elivate testosterone levels if you don’t need it. It balances the entire hormone picture.
If testosterone is too high it will bring it down. If estrogen is too high it will bring it down.
At this time in history most folks suffer from high estrogen levels as I explained in the other post. All Maca does is simply balance at all out. Makes it ”normal”. Whether its elivated estrogen or testosterone really doesn’t matter. Great product ...
