Seeing a correlation between high levels of blood cholesterol and increased attacks does not mean cholesterol is a cause.
Is it the oxidative stress which increase oxidized cholesterol which make up the plaque?
Is is the body which response to something by increasing its cholesterol production?
Cholesterol is a mild antioxidant. Low cholesterol also means more infections, so maybe the cholesterol is elevated to protect the body.

Truth About Good and Bad Cholesterol, The
by plzchuckle 11 y
There are several different types of cholesterol. The ones we hear most about are often referred to as the “good” cholesterol and the “bad” cholesterol. The bad cholesterol, otherwise known as LDL cholesterol, gets its notoriety from the fact that it transports cholesterol throughout the body. It therefore, provides the cholesterol that might become trapped in artery walls and form plaque. HDL cholesterol is considered the good guy because it brings cholesterol back to the liver for reprocessing and possible elimination from the body.
Although HDL and LDL cholesterol are commonly refe ...

Eating foods that contain cholesterol will likely not effect your blood cholesterol level much. This is described in Lowering Cholesterol.
However, eating food that lowers cholesterol (actually lowers LDL cholesterol, raises HDL cholesterol, or prevents oxidation of cholesterol) will help your arteries.
You can also help your arteries by controlling your blood sugar.

Vegetable oils will cause cholesterol to be eliminated from the body , lowering our risk of heart disease. Lecithin will not not dissolve gallstones which have ’set’ because at this stage in there development they are polymerised by the proteins within the mucin layer of the gallbladder.
It has been demonstrated that bile from people without gallstones takes about 15 days to form the nucleus of a gallstone. Bile of people with cholesterol gallstones, which, usually already contains cholesterol crystals has a nucleation time of about 3 days. Nucleation of cholesterol occurs far more rapidly from gallbladder bile of people with cholesterol gallstones than from hepatic bile in the same person, ...

The question about blood cholestrol and liver flushing comes up from time to time and this might help to answere some points.

The body’s cholesterol is almost exclusively excreted through the bile and the interrelationship between blood cholesterol levels or serum lipids and cholesterol gallstones has been studied frequently. The ability of the body to efficiently produce and dispose of bile is crucial to maintaining a healthy balance (ratios rather absolute measurement) of fat lipids. Cholesterol is definitely absorbed from the intestines. This can be cholesterol from food or that is released in bile salts.
Your diet can interfere with cholesterol absorption though, which is why I think the dietitian is making this claim. Many foods such as olive oil, fruits and vegetables contain sterols in varying amounts. These sterols have a high affinity for cholesterol, and bind tightly with cholesterol in the intestines preventing the absorption of some dietary cholesterol and reabsorption of bile cholesterol.

Cholesterol is the precursor for the synthesis of bile acids. Both dietary cholesterol and that made in the body are transported through the circulation in lipoprotein particles. The same is true of cholesteryl esters, the form in which cholesterol is stored in cells.
Slightly less than half of the cholesterol in the body is synthesised in the body. Biosynthesis in the liver accounts for approximately 10%, and suprisingly the intestines also make approximately 15%, of the amount produced each day.
Normal healthy adults synthesize cholesterol at a rate of approximately 1g/day and cons ...

The blood test is called a lipid profile and measures the Total Cholesterol level, the HDL, LDL, and Triglycerides.
Total Cholesterol is a substance (a steroid) that is essential for life. It forms the membranes for cells in all organs and tissues in your body. It is used to make hormones that are essential for development, growth and reproduction. It forms bile acids that are needed to absorb nutrients from food. A small amount of your body’s cholesterol circulates in the blood in complex particles called lipoproteins.

Gallstones are classified as cholesterol stones, calcium bilirubinate stones (pigment stones) and calcium carbonate stones, which are extremely rare. Pure stones, however, are almost never found. All gallstones contain variable amounts of bile pigments, cholesterol, calcium carbonate, and apatite, and their core usually consists of bile pigments or mucoprotein, which is secreted by the inner lining of the gallbladder, also known as the epithelium.

Proving that something is composed of cholesterol is extremely difficult.
I believe that it would take a lot of work by an experienced chemist, with a great lab equipment, to prove beyond any doubt that:
- something is not feces
- something is not oil
- something is cholesterol
There are no simple tests out there.
You can do spectrographic analyzes of stones, but that kind of analyzes can prove that stones might contain cholesterol, while you can not prove that stones do contain cholesterol cause there are many different molecules that give similar picture on spectrogram.

Cholesterol is a versatile compound that is vital to the function of the human body and just like everything else; cholesterol levels differ greatly among individuals. In humans, cholesterol serves 5 main functions:

Although people wants to make you believe that eating cholesterol will increase your cholesterol, that is not true. It is the bad fats that increase it. Those associated with graind-fed beef and the like.
I think that there are even people claiming that coconut oil will lower cholesterol.
