I’m taking about 2000mg of Caprylte brand caprylic acid a day. It will definitely cause a strong die-off in large amounts. It can cause stomach pain if not taken on a full stomach. I beleive it should not be taken by a patient with colitis. Other than stomach irritation, I have never experienced pain from taking caprylic acid. You might consider not taking anymore caprylic acid until you can determine what is causing your abdominal pain.

Hi Shygirl. I’m using Caprylate brand caprylic acid. Whatever brand of caprylic acid you use make sure it’s time release formulated. Caprylic acid is very easily absorbed by the body. Only time release formulated caprylic acid will slowly dissolve long the entire length of the intestines. Plain old caprylic acid is very quickly digested and does almost nothing to fight candida in the intestines. Good luck. I hope you recover quicly from your strep throat.

Re: is caprylic acid good in killing candida
by Zapp 19 y
Yes, caprylic acid is usefull in controlling candida. For what I read, there are other substances that are many times more effective in killing candida than caprylic acid. However, caprylic acid has several important qualities. First, although caprylic acid kills candida, it has NO antibacterial properties and does not harm lactobacteria. That means it is effective treatment to take caprylic acid and probiotics concurently. Garlic, pau d’ arco, oil of oregano and other anticandida suppliments DO kill lactobacteria as well. I have come to believe that lactobacteria implantation is actually ...

I have seen someone post (I think it was on the boards at iknowthecause.com) that she would take caprylic acid (the gel cap kind) and would open the capsule and just hold the caprylic acid in her mouth, and she said that her gums improved. I can’t think it would hurt since caprylic acid is a yeast fighter to begin with, I would just take a big swig of water when you are tired of holding it in your mouth sorry if that sounds kind of gross, after reading all the different posts on this website I think there are actually worse things LOL.

cocoanut oil kills yeast/caprylic acid
by nordskoven 19 y
Cocoanut oil kills yeast/fungus as having a high caprylic acid content. I suggest supplementing the diet with the inexpensive caprylic acid caps for anyone who has used antibiotics. Using caprylic acid with cocoanutoil swishing it would help to avoid the die-off reaction, the Herxheimer Effect, as the dead cell coat of yeast/fungus/Candida is what triggers the most intense allergic response, punishment for killing it instead of feeding it the sugar it loves. Coconut oil contains significant amounts of caprylic acid.
From the information below, it is obvious that coconut oil is the way to go with candida rather than coconut milk. I like patients to have a little unadulterated coconut oil every day. I have written extensively about the virtues of this amazing antifungal in my book.
100 grams of coconut oil contains:
• Capric acid 6,000 mg
• Caprylic acid 7,500 mg
• Lauric acid 44,600 mg
100 grams of coconut milk contains:

Wow this product is strong. Capric acid kind of feels like caprylic acid on steriods/ seems to react very similiar. Feels like its about 5-10x stronger than caprylic acid. I did 150 mg today and its making me very loopy/foggy in the head with some nausea. Cleared up my sinuses a little. Feels like its a little rough on the kidneys. I have a feeling this is going to have very similiar side effects as Caprylic acid. I like undecenoic better..less side effects.

What I’m saying is that one needs to look at a dietary source of caprylic acid to be taken regularly, especially the coconut oil as it appears to have the richest source of caprylic acid, but not to overdo it. That is, don’t go crazy and have a Tablespoon of the oil two-hourly for weeks on end like I have seen some patients do. A good approach is to incorporate coconut oil, milk and cream as well as fresh coconut into your diet like you would other nuts and seeds and oils. In addition, take a supplement that contains some caprylic acid regularly. If you consume loads of coconut, have a blo ...

Re: caprillic acid
by HealthyMommy 13 y
Caprylic acid is very helpful in strengthening the body’s immune system and in fighting bacteria that can cause conditions, such as gastroenteritis.
One useful attribute of caprylic acid is its ability to attack pathogens with shorter chain length than it, such as candida albicans.
Caprylic acid can be used in the form of capsules or it could be applied topically in case of skin yeast infection.
There are side effects though: An individual using caprylic acid to treat yeast infection may experience vomiting, nausea, abdominal discomfort and acidity.

PM Elyse500 wrote: ”I used it for a few months in the fall. I seemed to grow resistant to it however.”
Caprylic acid affects the very structure of candida, and therefore candida CANNOT develop a resistance to it.
It might be possible for candida to ”hibernate” whilst large doses of caprylic acid are ingested ... and to reappear once the caprylic acid is discontinued; but there are no studies which document that candida can develop a resistance to caprylic acid (unlike most other antifungals).
If anyone has evidence to the contrary, please advise.

Little Experiment #1: I once tried an experiment culturing sterile milk with different types of probiotic capsules in a yogurt maker. The containers without any caprylic acid added turned into yogurt. The containers into which I’d added caprylic acid did not turn into yogurt.
My unscientific conclusion: even the small amount of caprylic acid in coconut could indeed kill off some of your good bacteria. The unanswered question is, how much.

My thoughts on your diet are basically to do the McCombs Plan at some time in the future. I understand that you’ve invested time and money in the approach that you are using, and you should see some results. I’ve only found caprylic acid to be effective for about 3-4 weeks in eliminating the fungal candida and after that not much more. I think that due to some of the inherent toxicity with caprylic acid, the body interferes with its long-term effectiveness. When I think of Lauric acid, I’d prefer to recommend coconut oil, as every 100mls contains almost 45,000 milligrams of the stuff. Three tablespoons per day of coconut oil is the right dose, but folks need to go easy at first, and I always recommend starting with a teaspoon and to gradually step this dose up. The interesting thing is that 100mls of coconut oil also contains 7,500 mgs of caprylic acid and about 6,000 of capric acid.
It looks like everybody with candida should be consuming coconut oil, because it contains the three MCTs.

The beauty of caprylic acid, which I used to beat my candidasis, is that it does NOT kill bacteria. Caprylic acid is an anti-fungal only. Further, there is a very long history for treating candidasis with caprylic acid. It seems to be a rather innocuous substance that is well tolerated by most people. By taking a time-released form of caprylic acid, or mixing it in psylluim husk powder, it is believed that most of the caprylic acid can be retained in the intestine where it will adversely affect the candida. I have studied the research links provided, and it seems to me that it shows that saliva histatins kill yeast cells, and in the process of killing them, magnesium is expelled from the yeast cells. I fail to see how this is evidence of magnesium killing or inhibiting yeast growth.
Caprylic acid itself has been shown to be effective in killing candida. The problem with caprylic acid is that it is very quickly digested and expelled from the body before it reaches the intestines.

Virgin Coconut oil is a good fatty acid source and that alone can provide benefits. All fatty acids have antifungal activity. The strongest antifungal fatty acid in coconut oil is the caprylic acid. It’s presence alone does not make coconut oil a strong antifungal substances, but one that can provide a little bit of benefit. Using a more concentrated source of caprylic acid would do more, but Undecenoic acid is safrer and more powerful.

I haven’t used coconut oil myself, but have researched it a bit to figure out what makes it tick. The noteworthy compounds in coconut oil are the fatty acids caprylic acid, capric acid, lauric acid, and oleic acid, all of which are candida killers. Caprylic acid (the most significant of the bunch) is more reliably taken in pills, and as JV suggested, caprylic acid is readily absorbed by the intestines, so this is why it is usually sold in enteric (time-released) pill form to treat the full length of the gut. The goat milk fat (and cow’s milk fat too) is also rich in butyrate, which helps probiotics stick to the intestinal cells and also helps repairing the colon’s lining (butyrate is one of the short chain fatty acids produced by good bacterias).

Caprylic acid destroys some beneficial bacteria (maybe around 50%), but it is probably one of the ”optimal” anti-fungals in terms of balancing your gut flora. Caprylic acid is in mother’s milk ... so that provides strong evidence as to nature’s view of its importance.
