Massage for asthma: the lip lung reflex loop.
by Richard.Friedel 7 y
Whether asthma pundits in their ivory tower like it or not, pressure on the upper lip or the tissue between it and the nose (philtrum) leads to a relaxation of bronchial airways and a striking abatement of asthma symptoms.
So to cope with asthma.
1) Lightly massage or stroke the philtrum and sense the deepening of nasal inhales.
2) Inhale vigorously and loudly through the nose so that the upper lip is compressed and the reflex effect on the lung airways is activated.
2) Make a habit of strongly inhaling through the nose, when there is a feeling of asthma.

Bronchial asthma is a reversible airway disease. There is a good response to bronchodilators. A person with asthma feels symptomatic improvement when they use a bronchodilator like Albuterol, Combivent, or a nebulizer treatment. The common medications used for asthma are Advair Diskus or HFA, Symbicort inhaler, Dulera inhaler, etc. There are many other inhalers and medications used for the treatment of asthma and its control.

Re: Current Asthma Treatment makes asthma worse?
by ndul 16 y
Scientist are discovering that asthma is caused by candida or fungal overgrowth in the body. Once the candida or fungus becomes overgrown in the lungs asthma begins. All inhaled corticosteroids are known to cause fungal overgrowth in the mouth (thrush). If these inhalers cause thrush then it is my belief that they would also cause more fungal overgrowth in the lungs of asthma patients, and over time as the fungal/candida population gets bigger and bigger the inhalers become less effective.

Asthma Incidence Dramatically Increasing
Allergic conditions can begin at any age. Infants can develop eczema soon after birth. Babies can also suffer from asthmatic reactions to viruses, with chronic coughs and/or wheezing following colds. Preschoolers may develop sensitivity to milk and chronic sinus congestion or ear problems. It is during the ages 5 through 10, however, that allergies and asthma become especially prevalent. Children at this age develop seasonal hay fever attacks and asthmatic reaction ...

I actually would not attempt it during an asthma attack. If he has any sinus congestion, the pulling can trigger post nasal drip, which often exacerbates asthma attacks, as the drip gets to the lungs, it constricts the bronchial tubes.
However, if he does have sinus issues, cleansing the sinuses by pulling when he is not having an acute asthma attack could help his asthma overall. But I would have his medicine/inhaler nearby just in case the increased post nasal drip triggers an attack.

Thanks Geritol for that super important warning. It is pretty scary because prednisone is prescribed as an anti-inflammatory for asthma. Strongyloides stercoralis mimics asthma and it appears that it goes misdiagnosed as steroid-resistant asthma. So the doctors increase the dose of steroids to control the asthma, when in some cases (of strongyloides infection) it is the worst thing they could prescribe. Thanks again. XG

Asthma is the body’s defence against over-breathing. You are breathing in excess of your body’s needs. The carbon dioxide you are breathing out is a smooth muscle relaxant and is the body’s own natural bronchodilator. That means as your levels of carbon dioxide fall your airways become tight and constricted. While your bronchodilators bring immediate relief, there is considerable evidence that they are associated with a worsening of asthma and asthma related deaths. The worse your condition the more desperately you need the understanding to control asthma symptoms. Tell your doctor that sc ...

Smiling our asthma away.
A smile can conquer asthma. Though you can smile with your mouth open it is usual to smile with closed lips so that by a reflex the sympathetic nervous system is excited and you can take a deeper breath. Now in the case of asthmatics there too much mouth breathing so that a smile occurs without any or too little lip pressure and the sympathetic nervous system is not excited like with a person in good health. As someone with a fair share of asthma experience I would recommend smile against asthma. One feels the stronger heart beat and the relaxation in the chest ...

I have done this with all my kid cases, all have had effect, one with her asthma.
Make sure you give them all companions. Magnesium in particular is important with asthma.
