Life after Mirena....
I have to say, I am very grateful I found this site!! I had my Mirena IUD removed 3 days ago after having it in for 3 years. I had it put in 5-6 months after having my son. I never linked my IUD to all the symptoms I was having (some I thought was just my body changing after having a child), and I really thought I was going crazy. Some of the symtoms, like excessive sweating, nausea, acne, Sinus infection after sinus infection, & headache started just after getting the Mirena put in. (Had no idea it was caused by this darn thing!) Then about 8 months ago, I started having severe muscle aches, spasms & craps all over my body. It got to the point I could not stretch without pulling a muscle, and the later have it spasm for days. I also started suffering from severe fatigue, sore breasts, dizziness & vertigo. I also had a few times where I could feel my heart palpitating. On top of all these, my wieght has also suffered. I pretty much stayed at the same weight that I was when it was put in, no matter what I did to lose weight except that in the last 8 months, I gained 30
lbs. I have never had any issue losing weight, except for when I was on depo, when the same thing happened. I am only 26, so of course I went to the doctor to find out why the heck I felt like I was 80. I had so many tests, MRI (For my knee that just mysteriously started giving out on me & popping when I moved), tons of blood work. Everything was completely normal, but I still felt like poop.
Then I found this site, and started researching my IUD. I was almost in tears after reading how so many of you have had these issues and even more than me! I told my husband, who had absolutely no problem in telling me to get this thing out!! We went to the Doc the next day (My OB not my normal Dr.), and she reassured me that there are many women who just can't use these IUDs. She took it out, with no complications, and I can tell you my muscle aches subsided substantially right after it was out.
The following morning, I felt like a million bucks! I woke up by myself (the alarm had not sounded yet) and felt rested!! I don't know how long it had been since I wasn't completly drained! My sinuses were also clear for the first time in 3 years! This is day 3 for me, Mirena free, and I do feel a whole lot better! No more dizziness or vertigo, my knee stopped hurting & popping, and I only get the occasional muscle spasm now... in only 3 days!!! I still have a bit of cramping & my breasts are a little sore, but I suspect that my body is still trying to get my hormones under control. I have not started my period yet either.
I do have a question though, How is the weight loss going? My appetite is back to normal (I was always hungry before), But I'd like to hear some more experiences with weight loss after Mirena!
Sorry for the long message, but I just had to say what I have experienced with this IUD. As for the birth control, it was effective (no new babies) but really not worth it for me with all the problems I've had. Thank You to all of you who have shared your struggles!
