Welcome! I'm fairly new to this forum myself (but not new to Dr. Schultze & his protocols/products).
Yes indeedy, taking that much of anything does seem a bit extreme, but in the case of a deep cleansing for the bowel/intestine, and the nature of the product, this is what Schultze indicates is needed.
In fact, I'm quite surprised to hear that you got the Intestinal Formula #2 (IF #2) labeled as a "24 Hour Detox", as Dr. Schultze has always recommended that this formula be utilized as a 5-7 day cleanse procedure (as one thing that Dr. Schultze recommends against are 'quickie type/24 hour/miracle flushes'!)...at least as far as I've ever read/seen or heard. The majority of his cleanses & flushes are usually utilized for at least that long to achieve the necessary results.
At the top of these forums you'll see a link for "Dr Schultze", click on that, and you can read excerpts from his handbook on how to utilize the IF #2. The information below is taken from his website (which indicates taking the formula for one week):

DR. SCHULZE DESCRIBES INTESTINAL FORMULA #2:
This formula is a powerful DEEP bowel cleanser. Assuming that you are already using Intestinal Formula #1 and you are having regular bowel movements, it is now time to "dig in," and get out the accumulation of old debris that you have been collecting and storing for years. This formula is a strong purifier and intestinal vacuum. This formula draws old, hardened fecal matter off the walls of your colon and out of any diverticula. These are the herniated sacs protruding through the wall of your colon, filled with old, putrid fecal matter that the medical books say we all have, or will have, if we live long enough. To be healthy, you must clean your colon of this toxic poison.
This formula is also a strong anti-inflammatory and soothing agent for the mucous membrane lining of the entire intestinal tract, but especially in the colon. This makes it an important formula for anyone who has irritable bowel, spastic colon, colitis, Chrohn’s Disease, Diverticulitis, or any illness that causes hot, burning, irritated or bleeding bowels and diarrhea. This is also an excellent remedy for food poisoning because it will absorb the harmful bacteria. Therefore, I always have it with me when I travel. Finally, Peppermint leaf is added to this formula for a few reasons. First, it is highly anti-spasmodic to the entire digestive tract, reducing spasms and reducing the pain caused by them. Secondly, it is carminative in action, reducing, relieving and moving gas. BOTANICAL INGREDIENTS:
Flax seed, Linum usitatissimum, Apple Fruit Pectin, Malus communis, Pharmaceutical Grade Bentonite Clay, Psyllium seed and husk, Plantago psyllium, Slippery Elm inner bark, Ulmus fulva, Marshmallow root, Althaea officinalis, Peppermint leaf, Mentha piperita and Activated Willow Charcoal, Salix alba.
DOSAGE:
Before beginning Intestinal Formula #2, your bowels should be moving at least 3 times a day, or at least once for each meal you eat. Continue using Intestinal Formula #1 until this is achieved.
Take Intestinal Formula #2 five times a day. Mix one heaping teaspoon of the powder with 8 ounces of juice or distilled water in a jar with a lid. Shake it vigorously and drink it immediately. Take 1 hour after your morning nutritional drink, do the same 1/2 hour before lunch, between lunch and dinner, 1/2 hour before dinner and 1 hour before bed, so that you are consuming a total of 5 heaping teaspoons each day. Or, take it anytime during the day, just be sure to allow about 30 minutes before or after meals, juices or taking your tinctures. Use the entire 8 ounce jar in one week.
So, I have to assume that you got your "24 Hour Detox" sample from somewhere other than Scultze site, maybe (?). I recommend that you don't take it until you have at least a 5 day supply, as although it would probably accomplish something good and not be harmful, it would be MUCH more beneficial to do the whole cleanse.
My hubby and I are currently doing the IF #2 cleanse (2nd day, so we haven't see a lot of mucoid plaque yet). The only thing that comes to mind as a caution is to make SURE to drink at least 16 ounces of water with each dose of IF #2 (if not more :) and to continue taking the IF #1 (maybe an extra capsule daily) to make sure that you don't become constipated (as this formula does cause this in some people...especially if they don't drink the recommended water and/or have constipation issues in the first place).
I'm sure other may have something to add here, but that's what I can offer :)
