Iodine cannot displace fluoride / bromine / chloride

Thanks for your replies HoW. Great to see you have results. I do wonder though if these are due to mercury detox, not halogen detox. I wonder if my own Iodine urinary level is due to the Iodine not being absorbed / utilised to a large degree and me just excreting most of it. I had better results on my detox when I started using 1/4 teaspoon of borax to a litre of water a day to detox with boron.

The following article explains why Iodine cannot displace fluoride, chlorine or bromine:

http://www.palett.co.uk/energiodine.html

The mechanism behind "halogen displacement" was probably best described by J.C. Jarvis, M.D. ( Folk Medicine, Henry Holt & Co., 1958, HB, p. 136), who wrote:
"The clinical activity of any one of these four halogens is in inverse proportion to its atomic weight.
This means that any one of the four can displace the element with a higher atomic weight, but cannot displace an element with a lower atomic weight.
For example, fluorine can displace chlorine, bromine and iodine because fluorine has a lower atomic weight than the other three.
Similarly, chlorine can displace bromine and iodine because they both have a higher atomic weight.
Likewise, bromine can displace iodine from the body because iodine has a higher atomic weight.
But a reverse order is not possible."

The atomic weights are:
Fluorine 18.99
Chlorine 35.45
Bromine 79.90
Iodine 126.70

Therefore, any "halogen detox" symptoms one experiences with iodine are likely to be either from the iodine killing off bacteria, pathogens and/or viruses, and consequently the liver, etc, having to deal with this toxic dump. Or it could also be from mercury being mobilised in the body.

Mercury has a heavier atomic weight than iodine (200.59 to be exact), so maybe this is why iodine can displace it. Not sure if it forms to become mercury Iodide if Iodide is present (Here is interesting link about mercury iodide, presenting even more interesting implications for thyroid http://www.contech.com/Mercuric_Iodide_Detectors.htm).

Displacement of mercury can also explain an improvement of thyroid function, since the iodine supplementation has bumped the mercury out of the iodine receptor cells on the thyroid, and the thyroid can use the iodine to manufacture proper, working T4 (as opposed to T4 made with other halogens).

For pathogen die off, I take iodine only on an empty stomach, and wait half an hour. Then I take a good dose of a multi strain probiotic and wait another half an hour before any consumption of food.

For mercury detox, I take Waiora's NCD Zeolites. They are unfortunately overpriced, but I do not trust any other brand of liquid zeolite, and have had exceptional results with this product. You do not want to be detoxing mercury without it. The zeolites actually encage the mercury, preventing re-attachment to organs (including brain). Other chelators (including ALA and DMSO) merely displace or grab a loose hold of the mercury so there is a chance of the mercury being "dropped" by the chelator and going back into circulation in the blood to eventually re-attach somewhere. With the zeolites they will be excreted from the body.

For those who think they have never had exposure to mercury, think again. You may not have Amalgam fillings, but we all breathe the same air (coal burning produces mercury vapours). Also, you may have received injections which had thimerosal (mercury), or your mother or grandmother or great grandmother, etc, may have had exposure to mercury and it passed to you through the placenta. In the old days before they knew mercury was toxic, kids were allowed to play with mercury when they visited the dentist. Hatters went mad from the mercury blocks they used to make hats.

Boron is not a halogen, but from what I gather (further info/corrections welcome) it attaches to fluoride (the reduced form of fluorine) and mobilises the halogen so it re-enters the bloodstream and makes it's way through our filtering and digestive systems to eventually be excreted. I'm not sure if it has the same effect with chloride and bromine although I would assume so, as boron can attach to halogens to create boron trihalides. e.g. according to wikipedia:

Boron tribromide, BBr3, is a colorless, fuming liquid compound[1] containing boron and bromine. It is usually made by heating boron trioxide with carbon in the presence of bromine: this generates free boron which reacts vigorously with the bromine. It is very volatile and fumes in air because it reacts vigorously with water to form boric acid and hydrogen bromide.[2]

Several sites encourage consumption of borax to obtain necessary levels of boron to detox. A good resource is from Rex Newnham's website. Please note that borax is not boric acic. Boric acid is ACID, borax is ALKALINE. Preferably, take a boron supplement rather than borax laundry powder to avoid any unidentifiable additives. (Also preferable is to avoid capsules with stearates).

Also, if you have estrogen dominance, be aware that boron therapy can elevate estrogen levels.

If anyone can provide real evidence (not just anecdotal stories of detox symptoms) of halogen detox with iodine, please let me know. I'm looking for proof such as lab results for Hair mineral analysis with assessment of mineral transport using the Andy Cutler Counting Rules method, showing excellent mineral transport prior to halogen detox. Stuff like that with lab results. Even better, if anyone knows of a path lab who can test halogen levels please let me know.
