Sharp bone protrudes after wisdom tooth extraction

Hello,

I had my two right wisdom teeth extracted in January. In February a really sharp little piece of bone poked its way out of the gum near the lower socket. Within a day or two, it fell off. The oral surgeon tells me that this is a natural part of the healing process and that bone can't survive in oxygen so any protuding bits will soon fall off.

Since then, another, larger piece of bone has protruded. I have been waiting for about 3 weeks for it to fall off, but its still there.

Before I go back to my oral surgeon with the same complaint, I'd like to hear a second opinion or two. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks!
