Re: Side Effects vs Benefits of DHEA and Pregnenolone

I am a 53 yr. old man who has had real prostate trouble the last few years and it has led me to suspect cancer, which I am currently investigating. But I can say that I believe both DHEA and Pregenolone are excellent products. I stopped the DHEA until I learn more about my own situation, but I still take 100mg of Pregnenolone. I feel it helps me think more clearly. Overall its hard to say what benefits I have received because I have been doing many things for my health. I treated for adrenal fatigue, low thyroid, etc. I am now only taking armour, one grain, for thyroid, and have stopped any meds for adrenals. I am feeling better all the time, but much of this I attribute to eating a great diet(Budwig Protocol). Depending on your age and condition, a man can take 50mg of DHEA and also the Preg. without a problem. Even more if needed. DHEA can be tested in blood, for accuracy. As far as warning labels, remember you also see those on virtually any product you buy. A new appliance and they warn you about electrocution if you immmerse it in water, etc. But I will tell you that its important to learn as much as you can regarding supplements, herbs, drugs, etc. For example licorice is often recommended for adrenals but this involves risk as it hurts some people or makes their adrenals worse. It is relative and what helps one hurts another. I avoid licorice but just bought some Siberian Ginseng which my doctor suggested. He only likes this form of ginseng for adrenals. I appreciate that he is so learned and approves of natural things first and meds only when needed. I can tell you that the best thing for adrenals is sleep, preferably early at night, such as going to sleep at ten or earlier, and remaining asleep for as long as possible into the morning. THen reducing stress, eating well, and only light walking as exercise. A person with healthier adrenals can do more. I have begun bouncing on a rebounder, which is superiour exercise; but weightlifting is out until I get better. Again, DHEA is safe unless there is a possible prostate cancer to worry about. Preg. is safe also, and the two work better together. I would not take adrenal extracts sold in stores, as its hard to know what is in them and how they work; and I have read a great deal about this. If one got the product from a practioner who has studied that particular one it might be ok; but I would buy it on my own. I will begin the Siberian Ginseng though, which you might like to try as well.
