Do parasites or fungus cause itchy ears/wax build up?

Thanks Sniffs- I hadn't known the benefits of calendula, or comfrey root for so many things until just recently.

My daughter has had a problem with wax building up in her ears, and her ears itching since she came home from Afghanistan a year ago. The nurse practitioner irrigated the wax out, and told her how to do it, but she was asking me what the "cause" is?? I'm thinking parasites of some sort, or fungus? I had told her to crush up garlic and let it soak in olive oil, and put the olive oil drops in her ears with cotton balls- that helped my husband's ear aches last winter.
