Re: Help sinus pain

You might consider trying a simple herbal formula to help remedy your sinus condition. The simplest one I know of comes from Richard Schulze "snuff" formula. He devised this to help combat a wide range of sinus-related health problems. Sinus-related problems are said to be the cause of the majority of upper-respiratory disease and or illness.

This snuff formula is made from four herbs: Goldenseal Root; Bayberry; Garlic; Cayenne. The basic recipe is to mix equal parts of Goldenseal Root powder with Bayberry powder, then add a pinch each of Garlic powder and Cayenne powder. The medicinal properties involved with these 4 herbs are numerous, but the basics are, the Goldenseal and Bayberry will provide toning and cleansing of mucous membranes, the Garlic will serve as a broad-spectrum anti-biotic / anti-fungal / anti-viral, and the Cayenne will act to concentrate the effects of the former three while also stimulating circulation.

"stimulating" is literal in this application. The anecdotes from Schulze's lectures were pretty dramatic. It was interesting to hear the video of this portion of the lecture. The camera was focused on Schulze while he handed out a sample of snuff for each person in the class to try. Most of the people in the class were out of view of the camera, but the audio tells the tale .... lots of "oooohs" ..... "ahhhhhhs" ..... "wow!" ..... "oh boy!!".... sneezing, sniffling and the like. The garlic and cayenne are added to the formula by pinches "to suite the taste " of the formula maker.... a enough of each to provide the necessary zing to this formula. From one person to the next "zing" is somewhat relative, so some people might like a bigger pinch of each, and others less. You should experience tears as well as discharge from the sinuses, as well as an intense tingling/heat sensation throughout the sinus cavity and all the way down the back of the throat for a good 5-10 minutes after sniffing this snuff.... this is what stimulated nasal circulation feels like in action. All of these might be just what the doctor called for in order to begin a beneficial flush that your sinuses might be in need of.

The basic dosing is as follows: put a small pile of powder on a suitable surface, perhaps a pile about the size of the head of a cotton tip. Divide the pile in two, close off one nostril, abruptly sniff the first pile up the other nostril, and then immediately follow by sniffing the remaining dose up the other nostril. Then continue to sniff deeply through both nostrils to allow the powder to work it's way throughout the sinus cavity. Try to resist the urge to blow your nose right away... up to a minute or two if possible. This will allow the herbs to better penetrate before clearing the sinuses. However, if you need to sneeze, sneeze. As an alternative, if you are unable to get these herbs in powdered form, you could make a tea out of the same basic recipe, allow the liquid to cool sufficiently, then snort a bit of it up each nostril. This will take some getting used to but trust me, this is something well worth getting accustomed to.

The tears will help flush tear ducts, but the discharge from sinuses? Well, depending on whatever you have going on up in your sinuses, this will vary from person to person. On average, the average person will blow out some fairly routine looking gunk, but do not be surprised by what you might see come out of your nose... and don't be surprised how long this may go on. If there is any sort of serious disease going on up there, it may take time (days, weeks or more) to clear it out. There was one woman who reported that after her first try at snuff, at first she began to panic (which is not unusual the first time a person puts garlic & cayenne into their sinuses), but then over the course of the night, she blew 16 separate blood clots out of her nose. By the morning, she said she could breath freely through her sinuses for the first time in many years.

PRECAUTION: This is the real bummer part of this overall advice. Chances are very good that by themselves, herbal remedies like this snuff formula will help your condition. However, there is the ever-present need to use extreme caution whenever prescriiption drugs are involved. If you have not been using any of recent, this significantly reduces the need for this precaution. If you are still using any of these, it is possible that they might cause reactions (possibly severe) upon introducing natural herbs. If you are still on the meds, it is advisable for you to inquire for each drug you are currently using to see what, if any, undesirable reactions they are known to produce when mixed with specific herbs. There is some good news on this front. Many of today's synthetic drugs evolved over the years from what were once natural herb remedies. In many cases it already well known (and documented) that certain drugs do or don't cause severe reactions when mixed with certain herbs. This is especially helpful since many common herbs are better known by people as the foods / veggies / fruits / spices they eat as food. The trick then becomes doing the inquiry necessary to find out if any such interactions have been documented for the drugs in play.
