In the "Four Pillars of Constitutionalism" Richard Cox cites excellent sources for the original and re-affirmed thinking on the purpose of government. One example is regarding the speech that was delivered by Representative William Lawrence (Rep. Ohio) in defense of the civil rights bill that was introduced in the 39th Congress. The speech that was assessed by Alfred Avins, (editor of "The Reconstruction Amendment Debates") as the "best exposition of Republican legal theories" that supported this bill. Congressman Lawrence said: "Legislative powers exist in our system to protect, not to destroy, the inalienable rights of men."

Four Pillars of Constitutionalism: The Organic Laws of the United States

Introduction to and text of The Organic Laws of the USA., August 25, 1998, Introduction by Richard Cox
American Consitutionalism rests on four pillars: the Declaration of Independence; the Articles of Confederation; the Northwest Ordinance of 1787; and the Constitution. These fundamental documents, which have the collective title "The Organic Laws of the United States of America", are the first section of THE UNITED STATES CODE, the official text of the statute laws of the federal government. The 70-page introduction of this book traces the history of the official versions of our federal laws. It shows that the "organic laws" section has stood as a noble preamble to the official version of our federal laws virtually all of the time since 1878. It also makes a detailed argument for a renewed understanding of the Constitution as the ultimate "organic law"[1]. That mode of understanding is, in essence, the one articulated by Abraham Lincoln, and is in great contrast to the present-day tendency, within political science and law, to view the Constitution through the refracting, and often distorting, lens of "constitutional law". The latter half of the book contains the full, official text of the four "organic laws" and an extensive list of supplementary Schedule a reading OVER the phone Rediscover your #SacredSeed Nature Leslie Goldman Your Enchanted Gardener #PlantYourDreamBlog 619-384-2631 #theSevenLOveCURES # #HeirloomExpo. #farm2ferment Leslie Goldman Your Enchanted Gardener #PlantYourDreamBlog .

February 7, 2018 - The Most Important Service Industry -
"... The most important service provided by the services industry is the application of altruism to governments, with the goal of preventing the destruction of everything the labor force has produced, namely, civilization and high quality life.
This is accomplished by promoting altruistic self-government, so that civilization will become a government of the people, by the people, for the people.
The most important public servants of a government are the public altruists who lawfully compel public accountability of the egoists within the government by fining them in the same manner that a traffic policeman fines a traffic offender, and, by this process, raise lawful citation currency by fines to finance communities and encourage more altruism."[3]

Notes:
[1] I have my copy of the "Four Pillars" and enjoyed reading it. Now I feel compelled to read it again in light of this statement declaring: "the Constitution as the ultimate 'organic law'". In the meanwhile I would say that I question this declaration based on the fact that the Constitution of September 17, 1787 was never fully adopted as required with oaths "to support this Constitution" as per Article VI -
"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution ...":
