Homemade Frozen Yogurt   15 y
Simple recipe, simple process, simply delicious results

I just wanted to share that I’ve recently started making my own frozen yogurt - it’s easy and good! Ingredients: 1 quart plain yogurt 3-4 ripe peaches Stevia First you strain your plain yogurt 2 hours (I use organic whole milk yogurt but lowfat will work). This will reduce the yogurt solid down to a little over half a quart. You throw out the liquid that is extracted and keep the solid. Then you chop up several very ripe peaches and puree with the yogurt and some stevia, to taste. Chill, then pour into ice cream maker. Once it thickens (20-30 minutes), add diced chunks of peach, p ...   read more

Why the Venti Frappuccino?   16 y
An Observation made in a Greek Restaurant

I was sitting in a small Greek restaurant the other day. It’s next-door to a Starbucks. In walks a rather Large lady, I would estimate she is in her mid-30’s. She had in her hand a VENTI (huge!) frappuccino. My first thought, on seeing her and her overweight condition, was ”she sure doesn’t need a venti!” As she stood there waiting on her food, a boy who worked at the restaurant asked her, ”You’ve lost a lot of weight, haven’t you?” She said, ”Yeah.” He said, ”How much?” and she replied, ”135 pounds... but I was sick recently and gained 10 back.” WOW. First of all, it’s great that s ...   read more

Why many rural Americans can't get nutritious foods.

Junk Food County Why many rural Americans can’t get nutritious foods. The unhealthy truth about country living. Brenda Ann Kenneally for Newsweek Recent studies show that many rural families are dependent on high-fat food from convenience stores like this one in South Carolina for too much of their diet Fannie Charles, 46, lives six  miles from the nearest grocery store in rural Orangeburg County, S.C. She doesn’t own a car, so she pushes a cart along the side of the highway. (There are no sidewalks.) It’s difficult, since she weighs 240 pounds and ...   read more

Strawberry Lemonade   17 y
A summertime favorite!

The key to this recipe is to TASTE it and adjust it to your preferences. Ingredients: 5-6 lemons (use more for a stronger/sharper taste) 1 cup strawberries (preferably organic) Pure water (preferably distilled) Your preferred sweetener(s) of choice - I am using agave nectar and stevia Instructions: If you need to dissolve your sweetener in warm water, then heat up 2 cups of water, stir in your sweetener, and then let the water cool back to room temperature. Squeeze the lemons, pour the juice (a little pulp is fine) into about 8 cups water. Pour 2 cups of this liquid into your ...   read more

Kombucha: From Russia, with love   17 y
A talk with a young Russian doctor.

Last month I met a nice Russian girl. She and her husband were visiting the United States. She is 30 years old, and a neurologist. We had an interesting talk about how she practices medicine in Russia. She spends a minimum of 30 minutes with each patient, up to an hour or even two hours, as necessary. She talks with them, gets to know their problem and personality, etc. She tries to prescribe exercise, diet and homeopathy before she tries prescription drugs. She sounded in most every way to be the kind of doctor I would like to have, and that I wish all doctors were! Unlike American docto ...   read more

Creamy Avocado Pudding, Indonesian Style    17 y
Unusual flavor, delightful texture!

**This got deleted in the crash so I am adding it back** Creamy Avocado Pudding, Indonesian Style (Drink, shake, smoothie... but more like a pudding!) In a blender, put enough water to cover the blades, then add 1 whole ripe avocado, chopped. Blend. Start adding 1/2 cup chopped fresh ripe (sweet) pineapple, then add 1/2 large or 1 small frozen banana (in chunks). Finally, add some organic instant coffee granules, maybe 1/2 tsp? Not much, just for a hint of flavor. OPTIONS: -1 Tablespoon sorghum molasses instead of the pineapple. -Instant coffee substitute such as Roma or Tee ...   read more

2 Minutes Rebounding = Amazing!   17 y
You knew it was good for you, but did you know just HOW good?

My uncle has been doing a lot of rebounding. He recently got some sort of physical analysis done and his reading for his lymphatic system was so high(good) that the doctor (naturopath?) thought it was wrong! Then when he learned that my uncle rebounds, he said, ”oh - that explains it. You have an excellent lymphatic system!” This short conversation with my uncle got me interested, so I found this fascinating information on the benefits of rebounding for even a short period of time! Now I hop on my rebounder whenever I pass by! I’m not really talking about exercise here, folks - that’ ...   read more

Are You On A Diet?   18 y
...because you didn't eat cookies?

I went to a concert last night. Afterwards, there was a reception. I looked at the food table briefly, then moved on. All they had was grocery store bakery plain cookies with fancy icing, and a bowl of punch. I wasn’t tempted in the least by the cookies or punch - I don’t even like those things. Someone standing nearby saw me take a look and then move on. They asked me, through a mouthful of cookie, ”Are you on a diet?!?” I think this was meant in that ”if you are on a diet, you don’t need to be, because you are a good body weight” way. But good grief! I didn’t eat cookies, so I’m on a d ...   read more

Coconut Oil Fudge   18 y
Recipe I made tonight

Okay, I made some coconut oil fudge for the first time. The taste even exceeded my expectations! Kinda light and fluffy in a way, even though it’s rich. The basic recipe called for 1 part each of coconut oil and cocoa powder, and 2 parts maple syrup. (This is actually the pie filling in some raw cookbook). But I was just dumping things in, did it my way. Here’s approximately what I did: heaping 1/2 c. coconut oil (gently melted into mostly liquid form) approx 1/3 c. sorghum molasses, topped up to being 1/2 cup by liquid lecithin 1/3 c. maple syrup heaping 1/2 c. cocoa powder 1/4 ...   read more

Amaretto Smoothie   18 y
Crazy about Amaretto!

Okay, this is something I concocted the other day. It is VERY delicious. I eat it for breakfast. It is not proper food combining, as far as natural hygiene goes. But it does have a lot of minerals and different types of fat. Plus, the cinnamon and the fat will help keep the blood sugar from spiking. I am crazy about amaretto, so I think it tastes FANTASTIC!!! Recipe: 1/2 cup water 3-4 oz. coconut cream (coconut milk) (100 ml.) 2 brazil nuts 5 almonds 3 or 4 walnuts 1 tablespoon flaxseeds 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 1/2 or 2 frozen ripe bananas (broken into small chunks) 1 tabl ...   read more

Praying Mantis   18 y
Unusually large bug - beautiful in its own way.

On Saturday I was at my Aunt and Uncle’s house. I saw a very large praying mantis perching on a bench in their garden. I would say it was easily 7 inches in length. My aunt and uncle confirmed it was the largest they had ever seen, too. Here are some of the photos I took - I think it’s a beautiful bug. Note: These pictures are only slightly larger than life size!   read more
