The big run tonight and then the big run-in   18 y
talking points. talking points.

Thanks everyone, it’s so nice to feel you all out there. Thanks for bearing with me. So I tried on my size 10 jeans. They did NOT FIT. But that’s OK, I expected that. I got them further up than I thought I would. My shape is very hourglass - a tiny waist, heavy hips and thighs and upper arms, thin wrists and ankles. So I got the jeans up past my thighs, which I was worried about (you know, when they stop 3/4 of the way up your leg). So I’m looking at myself, with the jeans looking cool, except that my butt and hip fat actually is spilling UPWARDS and over the back. Hilarious. ...   read more

Things are going...   18 y
sort of OK?

My bridesmaids are not being nice. Feel bad for me. FEEL BAD FOR ME!!! Just kidding. But seriously, my future sister-in-law, who was my friend/roommate before I even met her brother, she’s really acting hateful towards me. I don’t know what’s going on. She is very misguided, she has a pattern of running away from things, and she ran away from being fired from her job in NYC to New Orleans, to volunteer for Katrina. She did some good work, she screwed around and lived in a hostel for a while, and got in a large amount of debt. Her parents have bailed her out, and she’s back in V ...   read more

4 miles, baby!   18 y
85 days to go

I ran 4 miles on Friday afternoon. Holy jebus - that was a long run, with hills and all. My muscles on the backs of my ankles are sore, but I’m proud of myself and will try to run this route once a week. I can’t stand any more wear and tear on the feet & ankles. I’m going to do some ankle dips to try to strengthen my ankles for next week. We drank all the beer in the house, and I decried, ”no more BOOZE!!!” We’re starting south beach phase 1 next week, but I’m glad all the beer and almost all the liquor is out of the house. My goal is no booze till June. We’re going to baltimor ...   read more

Goin' runnin!   18 y
wedding drama is a scary thing

Yesterday I drove a new running route, it’s a FOUR MILE run. I’m nervous to try it but I’m very excited. I couldn’t go yesterday, my legs were fried from lifting two days ago. So I’m saving it for today. Last night - I was bad, but not too bad. Too much cheese. Gotta get back to salad for dinner and no snacking. TV is the devil. I’m going to try to develop some strategies to get off the house and do something productive at night. I’m tired of sitting around snacking. I also need to get some crazy anxiety out of my system today. yet another of my closest female friends says i ...   read more

I was a little bad last night

I was bad last night, I had a vodka drink, and a beer, and some yummy cinnamon lentils and mushrooms, which was OK but I ate too much of it. I also had cheese & crackers & hummus. And 2 stalks of celery with salsa, and three slices of meunster cheese. Oh well, you can’t win every night. Tonight I’m going on a long run after work. Today: 1 lowfat yogurt. I’ll go get a salad a little later.   visit the page

Some great news!   18 y
86 days to go

Apparently being on the last day of my period last month was not a good time to weigh in. I went back yesterday, and it’s official - I’m down 5 pounds from LAST FRIDAY and 10 pounds overall. Inches - I’ve lost 1/2 inch on my hips since my last weigh in. I’ve started the cardio attack, and cut down on the lifting. I’m lifting no more than twice a week. This afternoon during lunch I did 1/2 hour of the weight circuit, and some walking lunges and pushups. Yesterday I did 15 minutes on the bike, 20 minutes elliptical, and 30 minutes on the treadmill. I definitely feel different when ...   read more

No more weight lifting for me.

Thanks for the support, everyone. So after crying for three hours on Friday night, and being a total wreck, I’ve made some changes. I’m back on the low fat yogurt breakfast, 1/2 good sized salad for lunch, diet pepsi, low fat yogurt snack at 3:30 PM, workout, 1/2 leftover salad for dinner, and as little else as I can eat for dinner. (probably hummus and veggies or something to supplement, after working out I’m pretty hungry) I’m trying to cut out all alcohol until the wedding. What’s worse - a chunky bride who’s sane, or a thin bride who hasn’t had a drink in months? You d ...   read more

Serious suckage   18 y
warning contains swearing. 92 days to go, I think

So with all the freaking work I’ve been doing, and I haven’t been going overboard with controlling my food... You guessed it - I gained a pound. Now I was on the last day of my period, and that may have had something to do with it. But I’m ending this %¤#&!§-right here. I was hoping to lose some real weight, and it seems I”ve lost 6 pounds since January 30th. That’s just %¤#&!§-. Especially since I worked SO hard this week that after I weighed in, I couldn’t even work out because I had worked my legs so hard the day before. I know muscle weighs more than fat. Tanning, can you believe it?   18 y
weight loss

I started tanning with a friend who has a tanning bed she’s letting me use. I know it’s not the most ’healthy blog’ type thing to do, but I’ll tell you, I feel awesome. I started with 5 minutes, and I’ll keep it really slow at the beginning. And this isn’t just about getting healthy, it’s about looking awesome in my wedding dress. It’s champaign colored, and when I have a nice skin tone in the middle of the summer, it’s gonna look AWESOME. Also, I’ll never get in another tanning bed after my wedding. I’ve spent my whole life with spf 15 on my face, and I will always believe in su ...   read more

Deprivation - help?   18 y
94 days to go

Things are good - we partied very hearty this weekend, with friends. I had an amazing workout on Friday morning, ran 3 miles, did 1 hr of yoga and lifting. I was ready for the weekend. I made a Passover Brisket, which won rave reviews. So eating this week - it’s been OK. I know I’m eating less than I used to. I find that I am much more satisfied when I eat real food, in smaller portions. Eating a huge bowl full of salad is really good, it just takes work for me to feel satisfied. Satisfaction is a huge issue - I find myself eating fast, looking forward to the next thing, but no ...   read more

Weekend coming with Bridesmaids!   18 y
guesties coming

My ladies are coming! My ladies are coming! I’ve got the day off tomorrow, and I’m really looking forward to a great day. I’m going to clean the house tonight, and sleep in tomorrow. Then a 3 mile walk/run, followed by some yoga, then some weights and resistance training. A nice long, not too intense few hours of exercise, to make me feel good all weekend. The lake has melted, and I’m going to jump in after my run. It’ll be freezing, but I’ve gone polar-bearing before. It’s good for you. Then shopping, and cooking for many. We’re having 2 bridesmaids, one lady who’s not tech ...   read more

Not Struggling - just kidding   18 y
the struggle totally continues :)

Since I wrote my high and mighty post last weekend, I’ve had... hmmmm... cake ice cream macaroni & cheese pizza and coca cola, mixed with rum. Sheesh. In other news, I’ve been dedicated at the gym and I think my workouts are a little more focused. But I have slipped eating-wise. I have been eating smaller portions, but I got a little too big for my britches, I think. Probably right after I got off the computer I went and had some chips and salsa! OK, OK. Next week we’re back on the wagon, bigtime. And daily posts of accountability.   visit the page

Weekend Update - a look back at my journey   18 y
this is a long one! New lunge secrets revealed!

Hi everyone. Thanks for stopping by. I know I’ve fallen off a bit with my daily posting, but I think it shows signs of very wonderful progress. I am no longer struggling. My clothes are absolutely fitting differently now. And I’ve lost that anxious, terrified edge that I’m not going to get the results I want by the time my wedding rolls around, July 22. I’d like to take a look back at the journey today. I intend to keep posting with progress, and certainly, as my final post, I’m going to post a picture of me in my wedding dress, so we can all share in the awesome thing we all ...   read more

no more gimmicks   18 y
just moderation

first off, thanks for getting me to look into soy. I had heard some things but thought they mostly applied to menopausal women. So the continued journey into learning control. It’s that simple - control. There’s going to be no permanent progress unless I learn control, as related to food. And on this front, I can say I have come a long way, I think. Yesterday I got back in the gym and it was awesome. 600 calories on the aerobic machines, and then weights for 45 minutes. Workout - 5:10 - 6:45. I know that if I continue to workout at least that long, I can’t go wrong. Also yest ...   read more

Now I'm really confused about eating soy.   18 y
confusion reigns.

I knew it was controversial, but I’m totally confused at this point. I do like soy milk, and tofu cubes in my salad at lunch each day. I don’t really have time to make nut butter and nut milk and all that stuff. I also don’t feel that soy clogs me up as bad as plain old carbs. I feel that I benefit from the protein, which I wouldn’t get anywhere else - I can’t stand regular milk, rice milk is yummy but is chock full of carbs... Maybe I’ll get almond milk to drink each day, rather than having a glass of soy. That will get me protein. And no more marinated tofu pieces, I can tell ...   read more

Wow, soy battle!   18 y
Soy keeps me from eating bread and pizza.

Back at work, major shakeups again. They can’t learn that firing a bunch of people just isn’t good for morale at the radio station. Sheesh. Regarding soy, I’ve found that eating a salad with tofu is really good. Tofu helps me feel satisfied without eating meat. And when I’m satisfied using protein, I tend not to eat crappy carbs, like pizza and bread, which pack on the pounds way more than tofu in my case. Also, I’m lifting weights, and I need protein. I’ll think about not eating soy, though. I don’t like tempeh at ALL. Are there other protein substitutes people suggest? I’ ...   read more

Back into exercise   18 y
is tofu part of a raw diet? how bout marinated?

Man I can’t wait to get back to the gym today. I had some pumpkin soup from the coop and some soy milk, and 3 oranges. However, 3 PM on Friday, work is stressin’ and I reach for a stupid donut. Dummy! I’m going to have a nice weekend alone, I’ve got lots of raw supplies to last me the weekend, and I’m planning on doing extensive yoga practice to clear my mind for wedding planning. I know I’ve done well with shaping up, and I’m pretty OK with knowing that if I just keep up the hard work in the gym and the good eating, I’ll be in good shape. Maybe not stick thin, but I’ll be OK. ...   read more
