But just in case you haven't, I'll post the info again. There is a diet for IBD, called the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD). It is taken from the book "Breaking the Vicious Cycle", by Elaine Gottschall. You can read more about it at www.scdiet.org , and there is a list at SCD-list@longisland.com which you can subscribe to by sending an email to SCD-list-subscribe@longisland.com . Although I have had a severe case of UC, after following this diet strictly for 6 months my GI told me that my colon looked normal. I have been on the diet for about 18 months now, and since that examination six months into the diet, my colon has continued to look normal. And I feel very, very well. After being so ill, unable to look after my family or myself, the experience of healing on this diet has been so LIBERATING - I can hardly describe it. There are about 250 of us on the SCD list, and success stories are frequently shared. I'm certainly not the only one. The diet requires will-power and time, but you could not pay me enough to go off of it. I hope that your daughter will look into it. Best regards, Janice _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Message: 2 Date: Sat, 30 Oct 1999 12:30:01 +0100 From: dusan@xxxxxx.xx Subject: Candidiasis (candida) recovery Candidiasis (candida) recovery from archives of candidiasis@onelist.com Message: 3 Date: 30 Oct 1999 00:18:06 -0000 From: kathlyc@sprint.ca Subject: RE: new member <snip> If there is anyone out there who has recovered - how long did it take and do you still avoid sugar and fruit? Just looking for the end of this very long tunnel.Crystal in Chicago I was originally on the diet for 8 weeks and then tried to re-introduce the "bad" foods slowly - my symptoms came back and then some! So I kept on the diet for another 4 weeks and tried again - again I had the symptoms - so I talked to another nutritionist who put me on a bowel cleanse and herbal program After 2 weeks I could eat bread again, another week and I was eating fruits! AND now I've even eaten desert on occasion without too much trouble! So yes, there is definitely hope.
