I have noticed that most people lick their lips every couple of minutes to wet them, they do it unconsciously, same as blinking. I had been taking 5200 mg of the stuff every day for two weeks before I had to stop a week ago. I stopped because I had some stomach problems that I think were related to the pills, mainly nausea. I don’t think the underline cause for my EC is allergy. MY lips almost never burn/itch and they aren’t swollen, only peeling and dry. My doctor told me that if the cause was allergy the steroid cream would have helped(in my case it didn’t have any effect). I have also tried the elimination diet, changing shampoo/ toothpaste and all that stuff, so I really don’t see how allergies have anything to do with it.   [End]

I have been constantly applying Vaseline for the last few months as a way to combat the awful dryness. It had done the job well enough until a few days ago when it stopped working. What I mean by ”stopped working” is that applying the Vaseline doesn’t make my lips feel better like it used too, they remain dry and sometimes even slightly burn, which has never happened to me before. You can never know for certain the reason some people get cured, those who have been may as well managed it because they left their lips alone long enough for some unknown internal healing process to complete. As I said- almost everyone with EC put some kind of ointment on his/her lips and try to not to actively mess with the lips, so I don’t see how you can draw conclusions.   [End]

I have been suffering from the condition for over a year now, dry and peeling lips. A few months ago I found out that applying Vaseline 24/7 almost stopped the peeling. It didn’t cure me, because my lips are still dry and raw with the outer layer of skin missing, but at least I can have a semblance of my old life back this way. Anyway, I find it interesting that most of us have healthy spots on the lips that never peel off or get dry. Doesn’t it mean that the cause can’t be internal?
