Orr, Dalla Valle, et al, wrote on the presence of color in colloidal silver in visible light in 1959. Their paper stated that color appears with particle sizes that are 200 nanometers (0.2 microns) or larger. Hi Estee, I agree with you as to the homemade silver being better. I don’t agree that jagged edges the water molecules (particle), the silver is dispersed (suspended) in water. The patent office is more concerned in prior art (previous similar patents), that all forms and paperwork have been properly submitted and especially that all Patent fees have been collected before prosecuting and granting a patent. The patent you reference is a utility patent, a new way of making colloidal silver, rather than a new form of colloidal silver. Hi Brooke, The definition of a colloid (any colloid)contains the size of the material dispersed which is between 1 nanometer to 1000. Nano Technology would define the particle range as being 100 nanometers or smaller. However, any colloidal silver (and yes, there is such a thing as colloidal ions, and ions can be molecules, larger than a single atom) is generally 90% Nano tech particle size. Hi, Depends on how much voltage and the distance between the anodes. If you are using coins or sheet silver (silver plate)only the surfaces facing each other count as surface area. Hi, I know this is an old thread, but 300 milliAmps more than a trifle strong to make colloidal silver. The silver will be torn off the wire with that much current. If anyone reads this, make sure you use silicon rubber tubing from a pet shop, not the PVC often sold. PVC contains phthalates which are rather nasty chemicals.   [End]
