I started making this 2 years ago. My husband and I had a wonderful dish at a local restaurant and LOVED the sauce. I asked the chef what it was and she said that she just cooked the heads and tails of fish down with tomatoes, onions, garlic, basil and oregano from her garden. So that is what I started to do. My husband and I go fishing a lot and I have a large garden so we eat this quite a few times in the summer. I didn’t know that it was so nutritious but I can tell you that if you let this cook on low for a few hours that your whole house smells good, and definitely not fishy.

I will have to disagree with you Trapper - my husband has extreme issues with Iodine. Even 1 drop can cause a really bad reaction. He had a lot of fillings (10 or more) which I talked him into replacing them with a competent dentist. He has tried to take iodine multiple times and each time he has an extreme mental issue with it. I was putting some iodine on a pimple on my forehead about 6 months ago and a drop of it dripped down on the outside of my eye. It got in the corner of my eye. I wiped it off and over the next few days it peeled and for some strange reason my eyelashes grew longer in the corner of that eye and became curly. I started oil pulling in the fall of 2006. I have quit for a few weeks here and there, but it is much like the habit of brushing your teeth. Get up in the morning. When I first started taking iodine I would get them on the side of my neck. Really BIG cysts. I have never had acne so this was an interesting twist for someone in their mid forties:) This lasted for a month or so, I then started to get them on my Chin and forehead and in my Hair. I have given her information on mammograms and why I feel that they are unnessary, however, she and I have agreed to disagree on this matter. Given her history of breast cancer and my families history of breast cancer, I think that this is something that makes her feel good about herself, and I can’t argue with that. I think that it was you V that told me how to introduce iodine to my family so that they would take me seriously, and I took your advice, however as you probably know you can not make another do something that they don’t want to in the case of family you shouldn’t even try:)

Thanks! The move was a big change for me - also just retired from a VERY stressful job after 25 years. Have been planning this for several years and am so very happy that I no longer have to live in a high stress environment - both the big city and the job. I am just going to contentrate on my health for the next year or so. I want to get out and exercise more and lose some weight by eating more healthy. I have always eaten mostly organic, however I love to cook, so portions can get out of control.   [End]

I am sure that she will still get a yearly mammogram, she just won’t be under the supervision of a breast cancer doctor. She currently has to drive several hundred miles to see this doctor. She feels that mammograms are necessary and tries to convice me to get one. I don’t believe in them for me personally, however I try not to tell other people what to do with their lives. I gave her the iodine book and told her my experience and let her make the decision regarding whether to take it or not. I am taking the C - Selenium off and on - I have noticed that when I take the Selenium as prescribed my hair starts to thin - when I back off that stops. I have always had really thick hair and wish to keep it! Since I am sure that the iodine docs have a reason for taking it, I still take it occasionally. I salt push as necessary, I don’t really need to anymore because I am not getting those really big eruptions and my kidneys seem to be working better. I think that the watermelon tea that grzbear turned me on to really helped my kidneys. The iodine was hard on them in the beginning ...

Heck while I am at it I might as well update on me. After months of hellish cramps after I started the iodine, the last 2 months have been almost normal. So prior to iodine Severe FBD - literally could not touch my breasts without pain all month long 3 week periods - extremely heavy bleeding - but no cramps after iodine Almost no breast pain - breasts a little smaller and extremely soft where before they were very dense periods 3-4 days but really bad cramps after 6-8 months periods 3-4 days almost no cramps! I will double check with her but the last I knew she started with 3 iodoral in July and then went to 4 in August. I believe that she has been taking 4 since then. The doctor made the comment to her that she thought that maybe they had not squeezed her as much as they should have on the mammogram because the difference in denseness looked so different from last year. This is an update on my sister. She went in for her mammogram and her doctor said that her breasts were showing much less dense from last year. My sister did not tell her that she had been taking iodine since July - weird how sometimes we are scared of our doctors? :) This is the sister that had breast cancer and went through the whole radiation chemo stuff. The doctor told her that if she looked this good next year that she would release her! Yeah!   [End]

My periods have gone from 2-3 weeks in length to 2-3 days since I started iodine. But they have been much heavier. When I started on the iodine, I started getting really bad cramps. I had never had cramps before. Then this last cycle no cramps and period lasted 3 days. So I would definately say that the iodine has affected my cycle. I started off taking light doses of iodine for FBD and I have been taking between 50 and 100 mgs since June or so.   [End]

I would LOVE to see what women who suffer from a lifetime of FBD would think of this thread. Until you have experienced the total withdrawal from contact in your chest area you have NO idea how limiting this is. My husband and or friends would want to cuddle, hug, whatever and I would just withdraw. It was WAY to painful. Now I can juggle, poke, squeeze, grip and there is no PAIN. It is wonderful! When it comes back for a few days before my period, I think - I am so thankful that I do not have to put up with this for my entire life. It is just a few days a month now.   [End]

I did feel that it was healing taking place, and my FBD is mostly gone except a few days before my period. I don’t know if it was the bath or what, but I suddenly had a burst of energy afterwords and just spent 3 hours out in the front yard planting flowers. o.k. It is official - Iodine baths make you loopy! I put in one bottle of lugols and 3 handfuls of himalayan salt in really hot water. When I got out I put on coconut oil mixed with iodine on my face. While I was soaking I got 2 really sharp pains in my breasts. I started imagining the iodine chasing the bromide out of my breasts. Get out of my receptors, these are my receptors now said the iodine!!! Laughing out loud to myself, I decided that I was officially nuts!
