I’m 20 years down the folliculitis line, and have had to shave as necessary during bad flare ups. When shaving with a blade, yes it will make some cuts, and quite a bit of blood at the beginning, but it’s essential to use a blade, and clean with isopropyl alcohol wipes straight after. I’m now at over 4 weeks of using the essential oils, here is my update: Still very successful treatment. I am still using the same system..oregano all day, and other oils at night. I’ve had 3 very small infected areas, and to treat these, I’ve found the best method for me (after trial and error). 1. Mix 5 drops of cinnamon bark oil with 5 drops of lemongrass oil. 2. Wow, that’s great that you’re onto it so quickly! I use cinnamon bark oil, I don’t think the leaf oil is as potent, but this may be better for you at the beginning. I don’t use any carrier oil, I put the essential oils on directly. But your store clerk was right, they can burn. Hi Dipper, yes, I use for example 20 drops of Lemon, and 1 drop of Cinnamon mixed together. The 4 most potent oils for Aureus are the same ones I’ve been using (Lemon, Lemongrass, Thyme & Cinnamon, as well as Oregano). I highly recommend buying and using these first, as they have been laboratory tested, and you are much more likely to get a result. There are other oils that are nowhere near as potent (Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Clove etc.). Hi Dipper, you seem to be on the same route as I was, and many others....the bacteria gradually getting stronger, changing meds, the meds gradually getting stronger, until the only option is to go onto meds that damage your body badly (accutane etc.). The Manuka Honey doesn’t smell :) But really, the oil absolutely stinks, and the smell doesn’t wear off during the day. I leave the honey on my scalp, under a hat, so it’s there for a long time. For me, Manuka Oil didn’t work. Definitely the honey is the better way to go. It’s expensive, but you only need to use a tiny bit on infected areas. One jar has lasted me over 6 months, and will probably last me 1 year more. When my infection was at its worst, any heat made it flare up instantly. When I was in the shower, the sun, or cooking, I could feel it getting worse immediately. I wear a hat. Sounds like you’re going great. If you’re improving so quickly, I’m sure you’re scarring will all but disappear quite quickly. I used tea-tree oil, but I found that eventually it caused more damage to my skin by drying it out. I didn’t find that the sun helped me at all, but any exercise that involves sweating seams to help many people a lot. Maybe it flushes the bacteria from the hair follicles. My redness lasted a very long time, and is still fading. After 3-4 months, I still had big red marks (not really scars) where the spots had been. But since then, they have faded, and now, you can hardly see them. It’s just a matter of patience, and realising that in the long term, the appearance will improve greatly. Hi, and welcome. I had new infection occasionally for a few weeks, so please don’t worry. Gradually all the infected areas will become better. I recommend that as soon as possible you start to wet shave, for me it works a lot better that using an electric razor, and then I don’t need to shave as regularly. At first there may be some blood, where you cut the spots, but it gets better with time. My head took about 3-4 weeks until the final visible infection disappeared, so please be patient. Everybody has different lotions & potions that they use. For me, my best results have come from 30+ Munuka honey, and H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide), applied to the problem area. I shaved my head a few months ago, as my scalp condition was so bad, but recently, by coating a mixture of this honey & H202 on my scalp daily, I’ve managed to grow a little hair back. Yes, the manuka honey definitely works well. I use the strongest available (30+), which is expensive at about $60 a jar, but I think this jar should last me a good 6 months or more, so it’s actually a bit of a bargain. I was covering my head with a thick film of it, for the first week or so after buying it. It dries quickly, leaving a stick film, so I would then wear a bandana or skull-cap to stop it picking up particles in the air, as I’m going about my business. Good luck with your shave. I’m 6 weeks now since I first shaved mine. The infection was up & down during this time, but my last spot cleared up in the last couple of days. If you find that after a week or two, it flares up for a few days, don’t worry. Mine has done this 3-4 times, but then dies off, and improves again. Just a quick update, 2 weeks after my initial big shave. Current regime: Shave with headblade (great recommendation guys), then using a French Clay ’Head Mask’, 50% French Clay, 50% water, mixed, applied to head for 20mins, then washed off, clean with Isopropyl, and then moisturising with a mix of Tea-tree, Lavender & Rosemary Oils. Thanks guys. After 24hrs, the initial shaving soreness has already eased slightly today, I’ve stopped using the clindamycin gel already, as it was aggrevating the problem. I’ve used clindamycin 5% lotion before, and the bacteria built up resistance to it, so I guess that’s why. I’m therefore just cleaning 3-4 times a day with isopropyl. I’m using 13% H202 once a day for about 10 minutes, on the nail, and for about 20 minutes a day, I have a soaking H202 3%/ACV 50% mix cotton wool patch on my toe. My bacteria is gram-negative Epidesmidis. It starts to come back 5-7 days after I bleack my hair, so I have to do it about every 2 weeks.
