Hmmm, I wouldn’t consider that healthy weight gain -- you might just get really bloated and constipated! Most people have problems gaining weight because they have trouble absorbing/assimilating nutrients due to a congested colon/liver/gallbladder and permeable gut wall. Oh yes, I actually have heard of this. I had a client whose mother and father took it and loved it. They were eating a very Standard American Diet and didn’t do anything special diet-wise and still got really good results. Are you sure it was the alcohol and not the billions of good bacteria? :-) Different brands have different amounts of naturally occuring sugar based on the fruit juice that is added to it. For example, the blueberry flavored by the Synergy company has only 4 gms (1 tsp) of sugar in 16 oz bottle, which is really good. Whereas, I just discovered the little 8.5 bottle by Kombucha Wonder Drink has 14 gms of sugar! Too much, in my opinion -- but still much better than straight up juice. You can use maple syrup or sorghum molasses or of course stevia to sweeten drinks. Like homemade fresh lemonade! How about fresh fruit juice with some sparkling water mixed in it? Water, herbal tea, and my two latest additions: coconut juice and kombucha are all at the top of my list when it comes to beverages. Yes absolutely, anything you run through the body is capable of straining the liver. Just like anything you lift is capable of straining your muscles. Hi Kelly, I’ve heard good things about liquid zeolite by Waiora but am concerned: would using zeolite over-burden an already tired liver? I believe that depends on the excretion pathway zeolite uses, does zeolite grab the toxin and got thru the liver and bile or is it excreted by the kidneys? No, green veggies don’t really have a high starch (carbohydrate) content. Frozen veggies in the bag are always raw to my knowledge. Veggies in frozen entrees are cooked, however, as you probably know. Hi Coffee Lover - The problem with coffee is that caffiene acts more like a drug in the body than a food. It really upsets blood sugar levels (among other things), which can cause a cascading effect of numerous other problems. 3-4x a week is still a pretty good amount. Hi Eve - I don’t know that particular product’s ingredients, but if it contains a good amount of protease and/or celulase - both powerful yeast cleansers - and you have a bad case of candida, my guess would be that you are getting a big ”die-off” reaction when you take it. In which case it would be a good idea to do a candida cleanse. Digestive enzymes vary greatly in their ingredients. Hi I don’t seem to digest my food very well (I think it’s due to Candida). I used an over-the-counter brand of digestive enzynes for a couple of months and didn’t see much of a difference. It depends on the supplement. Some are better absorbed on an empty stomach, while others are better absorbed when taken with food. Best to follow what it says on the bottle -- and don’t worry about it if it doesn’t say. Sometimes my stools are just a bunch of hard little balls. Someone else told me this means low stomach acids, and sure enough, when I started supplementing hydrochloric acid, my stools were normal (and I had no more constipation). Yes, calcium does alkalize your system. But a calcium supplement that as an isolated nutrient is completely foreign to the body. Isolated nutrients can cause nutrient imbalances, congested liver/gb, kidney stones/congestion, etc. Best to take a whole food supplement, like a green food supplement as I mentioned before, which will give you lots of calcium in addition to an array of other nutrients and help alkalize your system. Hello - Generally speaking if I had to rate these three sweeteners, I would put Stevia first as it has little to no affect on the blood sugar and is actually known to help balance blood sugar, improve digestion (go easy on it to start, as it can cause an initial detox reaction in the form of loose stools!) and host of other benefits. I want to clarify that there is coconut water (the liquid inside a coconut, usually a young green coconut) that is a drink, and then there is coconut milk or coconut cream which is the flesh ground up and mixed with water and squeezed so that the cream is extracted. I never heard of anyone drinking that plain (I lived in Asia 4 years) it is something people add to their food. If not, you really want to watch for other menacing substances besides sodium, for example MSG, artificial colorings, etc. Anything canned is not your best choice for something you eat a lot of -- and when you do eat it, be sure you are eating a lot of fresh vegetables with it to help balance it out.
