The alkalinity question does not really apply since the stomach acid and alkaline liquid will neutralize each other and release gas. The best way to assure the whole body has the correct pH is to eat foods which leave an alkaline ash after being digested. This is another reason why using baking soda is highly suspect, it neutralizes stomach acid and may actually cause more harm than good when over used. We need to get past just neutralizing the stomach acids with alkaline substances and look at the whole body. If one were to take enough hydrated lime to get the needed amount of calcium, then there would be considerable risk of damage to the digestive system from that degree of alkalinity. Alkaline burns are extremely dangerous, and hydroxides are very alkaline. I still believe extreme caution must be used with pickling lime, and that there are better and safer options.
