I originally responded to the original post on the "Relationship Forum." I have found that, for myself (and, many others), sexual intimacy does not replace emotional intimacy and that I have a much healthier sexual experience when I am emotionally intimate. The emotional intimacy allows me to trust that my partner won't deliberately inflict harm and that I can relax and surrender to that powerful, mystical experience.
