I saw some posts regarding lung issues and this little piece of the puzzle came to mind. When we are having heaviness and congestion in the lungs it is considered a 'damp' or 'wet' lung in Chinese medicine. The question is why would the lungs become damp? Normally they are an organ of respiration but there function is expelling toxins, inhaling oxygen and balancing moisture in the body.

When they are too moist then it is considered to be a kidney deficiency! The kidneys are responsible in large part for controlling water in the body. However when they are deficient then the extra load for dispersing fluids is carried over to the lungs. So in Chinese medicine a lung issue is also considered to be a kidney condition too. Often we are focussing too intently on the cough and the symptoms of the lungs but the body is a operating on a wholistic level at all times. Lungs also represent unresolved grief when looking at the emotional component. Wet lungs are 'crying'.

Lung issues according to the Rebirthing Community (and especially when connected to smokers) represents the need to return to the womb. By filling the lungs with smoke it is an unconscious response for the need to return to the womb when we felt safer and nurtured and we were taken care of. While in the womb the lungs were filled with amniotic fluid and the smoke becomes a substitute for that.
