Hi Maverick,

It's been 2 weeks since you posted, but allow me to make a suggestion. Why don't you try to stay away from fasting and other forms of extreme "black and white" eating habits until you have your ED under control? The thing is, unlike quitting smoking or giving up alcohol, we can never remove food from our lives.

You could just try to have regular meals that you are comfortable with and consider healthy-- if you can, try to plan what you are going to eat in advance and write it down so that it doesn't make you stressed or nervous. It seems to be like you are trying to punish yourself for your previous actions through this fast (based on your post). Coming from a recovered anoretic (8 years ago) that struggled with binge eating and over-exercising afterwards, I'd also recommend being easier on yourself. Getting over an ED takes time, time, time!

If you overeat or eat something that you consider bad, try to analyze why you did it and how you felt. Where your issues with food stem from in the first place and why you try to eliminate it from your life and then gorge on it? What do you gain by doing this other than destroying your health?

One final word of advice. After an ED it can take longer for your metabolism to normalize if you've been restricting and then binge eating. A Water Fast might well just lead to more weight gain afterwards (the yo-yo phenomenon). Don't get me wrong, fasts can be good for you and help to cleanse toxins from your body. Just make sure you embark on one for the right reaons with the right mindset. It can be dangerous to do so if you are still tied down by your ED.

Please forgive me if you find my comments at all patronizing or offensive. I'm just trying to help, and your story is strikingly similar to what was mine.
