Few things that come to my mind regarding your mother:
-diet: there is so much you can do to improve health by changing eating habits. Buy quality not quantity and have less food on your table, but good quality. Incorporate fresh juices. Leave out bread, pasta, sweets, use brown rice, quinoa, millett instead. Let her eat fresh, ripe fruit+vegies that are in season. Use parsley, thyme, basil, cilantro, preferably fresh. Make pesto out of cilantro or basil. Great to have it as a snack, when feeling hungry. I think it would be better for your mother to cook the vegies so she can digest them better. Try steaming the vegies instead of cooking in water, they taste better (also potatoes, steam them with the skin on).
I would omit red meats at all.
In terms of drinks, fresh juices, water, herb teas(mint, chamomile, green tea, or other decaf tea).
No artificial sweetener, let her rather use good quality honey if she needs to sweeten her tea. No processed food, it's so full of preservatives , additives that are unnatural to our body and do nothing but harm.
-cleansing: let her have a tablespoon of olive oil+2 tablespoon of lemon every evening before going to bed. She could start her morning with freshly squeezed lemon in 1 cup of warm water,1 tsp honey can be added. It's a nice tonic for the liver.
There's also oil pulling that is a pleasant thing to do and there are so many people who had great results with it. (I'm doing it myself, so does my mom)
There's also liver flushing, choose a gentle one, so it's not too stressful on her.
Yoga- can you enroll her in a yoga class, or buy a dvd so she can practice at home?
Have you considered talking to a ND?
Poor lady, I feel sorry for her having to take that many medications.
It's a good sign that she is willing to try a different, more natural path toward her health.
Let her believe in herself and make little steps helping her body heal and make her days easier.
I wish her well and please ask questions, there are so many wonderful people on CZ.
We all learned here a lot, got help when we needed.
All the best.
Suz.
