...and I had a good flush anyway.
Yesterday was one of those days that would normally make even the most dedicated liver flusher postpone the flush. However, I had been having twinges of pain for several days, and experience has taught me that twinges are a prelude to a full blown gallbladder attack. Still it was not an ideal day. First I had not done my preflush prep with apple juice. Then after church yesterday a friend took me to lunch where I enjoyed a southern style feast of brown beans, ham, coleslaw, fried okra and cornbread. It took every bit of will power I had not to drink sweet tea and have fresh strawberry pie with real whipped cream for dessert. Still,it was not a meal conducive to liver flushing. Later I realized that a Sunday flush meant choosing between taking the Epsom Salt early and praying the preacher didn't get too long winded, or doing the whole flush two hours late. I chose the late flush and it was a good thing since the service ran long. When I got home from church, I went in the kitchen and looked into the face of what at first seemed to be an huge mutant rat. When my heart started pumping again enough blood reached my brain to realize it was a juvenile possum. Better than a rat, but hardly a welcome house guest. I scared it back into the hole in the wall (gotta get that patched) and proceeded with the flush. All went as usual, two drinks of Epsom Salts in apple juice, then what I call the Hopinso recipe: 2/3 cup olive oil mixed with 2/3 cup apple juice drunk down quickly followed by 1/3 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice as a chaser. Then quickly rinsing and spitting 1/4 teaspoon baking soda in a little water and right to bed. All was well until about 3:30 am when my dog who sleeps at the foot of the bed had a seizure (he was a badly abused puppy before I adopted him). So here I am, wakened from a deep sleep trying to stay on my right side and care for my dog. Then he loses control and pees all over the bed. I wait until he is better, then I have to get up, strip the bed completely (and me too since my gown got wet), deodorize the mattress, dry it with a blow dryer, then flip it, because I'm squeamish about sleeping in dog pee. I had no clean summer sheets, was afraid to go hunt up any flannel sheets 'lest Mr. Possum was back, so I curled up in an old comforter and slept on the bare mattress the rest of the night.
Anyway, despite all the mishaps, I had a fantastic flush. Early on I passed a large oblong stone about 1/2 inch by 1/4 inch. Later I passed over a hundred small stones before even taking the morning Epsom salt. Since then I figure I have passed over 300 stones with a few almost marble sized. There has also been a whole lot of chaff. I have lost track of what number flush this is, but it must be getting close to #40. I no longer flush every two weeks, just when I get those twinges. I still have to take more pain killers than I'd like for my back problem, and imagine that is why I'm still producing lots of stones. This has been the most prolific flush in several months though.
I know I don't have any new information or profound wisdom to share, except to say that flushing does work, even in less than ideal circumstances. Also, any body want a possum? :)
