You mention the smell went when you had IV's that flushed you out and got rid of the smell for two weeks - you are therefore very lucky in you know what is causing the smell and therefore should be pretty simple to fix. To check you basically need to clean your bowel out - you could do it through diet as you sound like your doing - or take a very strong bowel cleanser...now I would recommend movicol (thats the uk) laxitive. The reason its good is it works by osmosis - so that it doesn't become addictive - its basically a colonic from the top down. Its a simple idea - you have salts in it that stop the water you drink with it being absorbed - so they go straight from your mouth down to the bottom - washing you out. I don't know what its called in america - although there is an american name - but any kind of osmotic laxitive should work. SHould be able to get from a pharmastist - or doctor (just say you want an osmotic laxitive for constipation!)
It would be a simple way to see if you can get rid of the smell quickly. You can look it up on Google - let us know how you get on. SHould be cheaper in the short term then loads of supplements - although obviously once you know exactly that its your bowel you'd want to do the same thing through diet!
