From personal experience I won't touch soy. In my early 40s I had fibroids that took off growing like a rocket when a well meaning alt. doctor put me on soy and progesterone cream. I ended having a myomectomy (took out the grapefruit size fibroid and it's buddies and left my uterus intact). Didn't know about Iodine at the time so had no other option as it was growing fast.

In the last year or so there's been evidence that progesterone may actually be the culprit in uterine fibroid growth. I think prehaps deranged receptors set off teh growth and progesterone speeds it up.

"It appears that the progesterone/progestin component is needed because that is the hormone that increases cell reproduction (mitotic activity) in the fibroid itself (19)."

"Histologically, fibroids from patients treated with progesterone show more cellular growth than those from patients without progesterone therapy. Biochemically, fibroids have higher progesterone receptor concentrations than normal myometrium. Together, these data suggest that progesterone also enhances fibroid growth."

I'm guessing there's a link with fibrocystic breast disease also.

In terms of flax.....I've dropped that one from my diet and feel better without it. Also have a friend who's joint problems went away when she stopped flax. I suspect it's goitrogenic properties are a big problem for many.
