I know exactly how the guy feels, because due to work circumstances, i am $30,000 in debt and don't see any way out of it, either. 

One thing my mom always told me is that people who try to do it often fail and end up hurting themselves she would tell me they end in a hospital the rest of their lives instead, so it isn't worth it.  That always sticks in my mind when I get those thoughts, so I guess it was effective so far.

I do not know where you live, but you might want to contact a television show that helps people in these situations.  Tyra has a big heart for things like that.
