The results of the polls/studies aren't really that surprising to me,at all. It's a fact that men hardly ever report domestic violence or abuse - it's stigmatized to the point that they would rather suffer the inhumanties associated with abuse from their female counterparts than endure unspeakable ridicule by reporting it.

Women are far more violent today than in past decades - teenaged girls, for instance, are more apt to engage in physical violence with other girls to resolve disputes rather than engage in discussion. They are also more likely to engage in violent behavior towards a significant other, parents, and authority figures. There are a number of factors for this escalation of violence among teenaged girls, including mainstream audio/visual media, parental influence (or, lack, thereof), poor social skills, and others. Another factor for young women engaging in physical violence towards males is that there is a gender vaccuum - young females are being taught that they cannot express their own "femininity" with the exception of sexual attraction. They no longer know how to BE feminine without digressing into socially/sexually demeaning behavior, violence to assert dominance/strength, or profanities to express themselves. Women have UNlearned how to be alluring, desirable, and intelligent without baring their body parts and resorting to verbal abuse to drive home their points.

Bottom line, here, is that reporting domestic violence/abuse is difficult for anyone, but particularly for men due to the stigma. And, it's only getting worse.
