I didn't hear about Hawaii's rains, or that they got infections from it. Sounds like the "bad crystaline silica" was used somewhere up wind of Hawaii - hey, that could be CHINA!!
[well, i don't KNOW that, winds shift and maybe the source WAS China, just a hunch].

China is polluted and toxic - mercury and lead are so prevalent that every product coming from there will have higher levels of them than we are used to, often above the guidelines set for our protection.

I might disagree with that link that says the FDA are "gleefull" about the bad news about Chinese products. American businesses profit a lot from the Chinese imports and the favorable cost of producing them there. It probably took a lot of shouting before these warnings were made public, many would prefer to just keep selling them to unaware consumers.

As for food, it is recommended to focus on INGREDIENTS and not the package. However, when the Chinese lie about the ingredients or substitute something cheap and toxic for the officially listed ingredients, they just 'shoot a mid-level manager' and declare the problem fixed, and maybe change the company name, but continue selling the same toxic products.
