I store my Sugar or other food they may like in the fridge or freezer. Otherwise they will find and contaminate it. The Aspartame sounds like it's worth a try.

For inside spraying Malathion may have to much of an odor, not to mention toxicity. Try Raid wherever they are entering, they hate it and it will repel them.

You can seal them out but they will usually just find another way in.
