They very well may be coming in to find water (liquid/moisture of almost any sort). I don't know about the closet, but the bathroom and kitchen both have a lot of moist things. The water cooler, the coffee maker (for example).
Is it dry where you live?

That doesn't help with the solution but it might explain a few things.
