Yeast infections are generally charecterized by a thick discharge like cottage cheese and sometimes little to no odor or a distinct yeasty smell,
while bacterial ones are usually thinner or runnier with a distinct fishy odor
bacterial infections are more common if sexually active and can lead to recurrent problems if mistreated.

Your doctor should be able to differentiate given the presentation. Simply talk to the Dr. and explain the problems and ask questions. Their egos are better handled if you ask questions rather than diagnosing yourself.
