No Steroids...
My favorite weight bearing exercises have always been bench, flys and reverse flys, curls, presses, including leg presses, incline and reverse incline push ups, bar dips, shoulder work, etc. You get the idea.
EDIT
I thought I would add...
My left knee is improving albiet slowly. While it would go out on me literally dozens of times a day 2.5 years ago, it only slightly goes out on me once or twice a day now. Todays workout was the second (yesterday the first) where it did not click, crack groan or complain since I can remember. I still have range of motion issues, however am sure this has more to do with the gap between the bones in the joint; I had literally NO cushioning cartilage at my last x-ray before I walked away from doctors.
I have had a great softening of my surface and just under surface scar tissue and believe that this may in fact be one reason things are coming into place. If the same thing is happening inside and around the knee joint, my lower back (several other surgery related places too) I suspect the comfort and movement will continue to improve whether I actually regenerate cartilage or not. IF I ever feel I am back to where I was before my first knee surgery, I will walk into one of my former knee surgeons (I had 2) and ask for them to check out the cartilage in them... hopefully, both he and I will be blown away.
My goal is to try a short run, perhaps a 1/4 to 1/2 mile jog this fall... it appears I am going to make it.
The true test of progress will be the effect of the run on the joints.
My right leg which was almost as bad has not been a problem for well over 6 months.
